I miss it...but I understand why it was outlawed
MrTibs

why is it outlawed?

because it aloud people to dive at the goalies and they didn't want goalies getting hurt.

There were some players that could do the dive and it was graceful and not dangerous for the goalies...then MANY players started doing it that shouldn't have...there were many players that were just diving without a clue and cutting the goalies at the knees...

Kinda like skiing...you and your friends are goin down the black diamond and pause at the start of some moguls...along comes this fool that thinks he knows what he is doing and falls in front of your group wiping everyone out and breaking and tearing people's ankles and knees...just not right...

Thanks Steg, I appreciate that analogy.
It was a pretty play, but think about the dumbasses out there who you play with, and think of them doing a crease dive. As goalies, we're taught not to bail out on any shot, so we stand there trying to block the dummie and he caps us at our knees...

Because they didnt want goalies going out in every game with broken legs =P

No MLL goalie has had problems with the dive yet

Yeah but the idiots in highschool and college do it and hurt the goalies, thus' its banned all around.

hands down its still the coolest play in lacrosse....
lacrosse needs a play like that to spark intrest in those not as familiar with lacrosse... either that or we all need to start fighting in field as much as they do in box... being a hockey player also i could go for either one

That's because, all the guys who play pro know what the hell they're doing... unlike high school and college

Played D3 ball as a goalie in the 80s & there were plenty of people that didn't know what they were doing (not all of them). I would usually X-check a guy under the guise of attempting to match his stick, or just happen to fall on him with my knee in his chest or back LOL.
I never got seriously hurt (I was never good enough where they would set out to take me out of the game LOL), but I understand why they banned it.

it shouldnt haven been outlawed. the goalies get shot at with lacrosse balls all day. if u r afraid of getting hurt dont play this sport

strong words from a non goalie....
at any rate, it's also a very hard call to make in terms of the officiating.
also, no one in the USLIA should talk crap about where someone plays.

you can do it if you can pull it off. don't dive across the crease, dive away from it. in other words, dive with your body perpendicular to the face of the goal, not parallel.

i was a college keeper in the dive era, and i'll make you a deal.
if you can stand and not move while i dive full speed into your knees, i wont think you have no idea what you are talking about

I think allowing dives directly at the goalie is one of the stupidest rules that ever existed. NLL is the only league where you can still see this stuff.
Its not even kosher in Canadian box, you can dive, but you can't break the plane of the crease with anything except your stick.

if MLL players kno wat they r doing... then y dont they just ban it from HS and college? They could still let the guys who kno wat theyre doing do it
