View Full Version : What is better for building explosiveness and sprinting speed?

Hi
I am going to start weight training, but can't decide on what leg exercises I should do.
I want to build explosiveness as well as sprinting speed.
What exercises would be best for this...
squats alone or leg curls and leg extensions?

Jogging, sprinting, jogging, sprinting.
Use intervals.
Weight training will only make your muscles more durable, if you want to become fast run some track on the side.

what do you mean by more durable? weight training will definitely make you faster...think about nfl running backs who run 4.4's...for the most part they squat more than 600 pounds
Squats and deadlifts for sure. The more weight you can lift, the more force you can apply to the ground. Clean and jerks and snatches are probably the best exercises to build expolsion.

One thing my trainer used to do was in the gym, stand under a pull-up bar, and you do a squat thrust but then when you stand up, you jump up and do a pull up. Tires you out for sure, and it definitely helps explosiveness.
