Anyone here play any kind of musical instrument? I play the guitar, been playing for about 4 years now. I also play the cello in orchestra "chamber orchestra" but I try to keep that on the DL, not download...down low. I like music and everything about it. Just wondering how many people here play somethin.
I'm learning ye bass guitar. That's why Colin Greenwood and John Paul Jones are my heroes. I should probably practice ye bass more often.

started playing the piano when i was like 5 or 6. Quit when I was 13... why? My teacher couldn't teach me anymore. I was that good. My first teacher called me a prodigy. I was playing bach and beethoven and chopin when I was 10... I was that sick.
But I don't play anymore, only time a touch a piano now is christmas time to play christmas songs.

I surf every once an while myself, Mostly in winter around here cuz that when the swells come and with out swells the waves in ocean city are only like 4 feet but you get a good swell your talking about 10 foot waves.
xSURFERx
10-19-2004, 03:55 PM
thats what it is like here, in winter we get so pretty big swells 7-12 feet ussally, but in the summer waves r only 4 feet, except towards huricane season when we got 14 feet.3 huricanes in a row, good surf.

awesome awesome awesome....I actually like orchestra even if my friends make fun of me for it. Bass is an awesome instrument, I know a couple people who play and bands around my school ask for them a lot because a lot of people don't play bass as much as guitar. I play acoustic guitar and I write songs all the time, I love finger picking. I rarely ever use a pick and my friends think it's kinda weird. But I like the sound a lot better for some reason.

Guitar, 7 years
Bass, 2 years
Piano, 1 year
Drumset, 9 years
Percussion, 8 years
I'm at a point now where you can put me behind any percussion instrument (marching, concert, multipercussion, hand percussion, keyboard, timpani, drumset, anything, and I could play it well and in any style).
I'm at the U of Miami getting an undergrad in percussion performance (along with english comp and religion) and I'll move on to get a doctorate or masters either here, UNT, or Berk. school of music. Basically... percussion is my life outside lacrosse and rock climbing.
My friends is trying to get the Jimi Hendrix scholarship at Berkeley. He's that good. Played for a year and a half and can play anything you can put in front of him. He writes music too, but I have yet to hear it. He just has to do scales and stuff, and those always throw me off. I played tuba for a while and liked it (with my monstrous lips) but I really didn't like my band teacher. Yeah, so watch for the incredible Ryan Garey, the most amazing guitar player at age sixteen.

If you can play guitar, you can play saxophone. All it really is is getting a good emboucher,(how you blow into it) and learning the keys. The key combinations are of less than the guitar, you can already read music, and you probably have fast fingers from guitar, so just go to a local store and rent a cheap saxophone.

Hey, Ive been wondering how musical all you TLFers are. post what instruments you play, if you've been taking music theory or history and what kind of group you play with and what kind of music you play.
I've been playing the Trumpet for 7 years, did the band thing til high school and have been in an orchestra ever since ( portlanyouthphil.org ). I also have been taking music theory and history for 3 years. I started playing mandolin 2 years ago and love it alot. I play classical pieces with my orchestra - and jazz, rock, and bluegrass on my mandolin.

i played trombone, baritone, tuba, and french horn in middle school. then in eighth grade, our school arranged a jazz ensemble, and i was taught Jazz bass and jazz theory. since then, Bass (upright and guitar) has been my main focus, and i now play in my high schools jazz band.

I've been playing guitar for about 4 years now. My brother is a great bassist so he's been teaching me a lot of cool bass lines and stuff. So I guess I've been taking unofficial bass lessons for about 2 years. As for guitar I took lessons for about 2 years before I couldn't find enough time to balance them with sports and school. I'm going to start taking lessons and maybe join the Jazz Band next year. I'm also looking to buy a decent keyboard just to play around with.
As for styles. I tend to play mostly rock, although ska and reggae upbeats are really fun to play as well. Blues are also fun when your in the mood for them.
