Trevor Tierney officially retired. The outlaws now have Jesse Schwarzmann and Alex Smith (CSU, not Delaware) as goalies.
Thoughts?

Great Goalie who is listening to his brain & his doctors instead of his ego.
Hate to see someone go out like this but it's better than being a vegatable
the rest of his life. He'll make a great coach!

I kinda wonder what he's gonna do... I know he lives here in Colorado, I wonder if he is gonna jump on with the Outlaws as a coach or look at jobs around the high school level.

I dont know. If you read on lax.com though, where it says that the outlaws released their 23 man protected roster, it says that tierney was left off because he retired.

I think he's working with RBK or Adidas as a product rep, so I'm not sure if he's going to take a coaching job anytime soon.

i am a big fan of tierney but im glad that he went out while he could still make that concious (sp) decision. I think its good he listened to his body and the docs....
as for the future of Denver, schwartzman and smith are two really good goalies and I think they will probably give the job to jesse, even though alex smith is a nasty goalie

He retired at the end of the MLL season after too many concussions. There's an article in the most recent Lacrosse mag (US Lacrosse mag) about safety and concussions, and apparently Jay Jalbert talked some sense into him following his own travails with concussions. Apparently the brain will heal given time, so who knows - he may decide to come back at some point, or perhaps play club ball again.
What I'm wondering is, how the heck did a goalie get so many concussions? I mean, I don't think it was head shots that did it, but rather cross-checks and hits from players. I know he liked to roam a bit and hit people, but I don't recall seeing him take that many himself.

trevor was one of my favorite goalies i first met him when he coached our boulder select u-13 team that went to a national lacrosse tournement in vail and won the colorado cup. players from our bolder team along with josh simms, and jeff sonke made an instructional dvd with trevor. he showed me alot of good techniques and would make a very goodn coach in the mll

This highlight clip (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0wzDFltimF4) from the 2006 season gives his tenacious style of play justice. Such a shame on of my favorite goalies.

Between the big man Schwartzman and the more mobile, athletic Alex Smith, it could give a great 1-2 punch to throw at opposing teams.
