Here is a simple guideline to help all of you buy/sell/trade over TLF.

When you see an item you are interested in, you should:

1. Copy sellers/buyers/traders name and paste it into the search bar. Look for the results that come up on the good/bad sellers list. If it comes up on the bad sellers list, you may want to search through the thread to see what he/she had done to scam someone.

2. Check the join date. If the member joined just a few days or weeks ago than you may want to wait until they get positive feedback, or get a guarantee that they ship first.

3. Ask other members who have left feedback for that person how their experience was. Was the shipping quick, were they polite, easy to deal with, no hassle etc.

4. Keep in touch!! Get the members email, IM, MSN etc. so that you can talk to them if you need to about where your item is and whats going on.

5. Ask the member for a typed agreement for the item over pm's:

EX: I, Spartan agree to trade Hooligan my wizard for his torque

and vice versa

6. Make sure (if you are young) that it is okay with your parents to give out your address and personal info to someone over the internet.

7. Make sure that you have enough money to buy an item before you tell the member that you can buy it. It wastes time and can be a pain when others are trying to offer money that they actually have.

8. Make sure that the item you are trading/buying is exactly how it is described or else you will be left/leaving negative feedback and could be down an item.

9. Draw a line for yourself. I usually don't deal with anyone who has less than 5 positive feedback, and no negative feedback.

10. DO NOT SELL PATENTED ITEMS!! Example: I am stringing Rock-It Pockets and Love Pockets for $25. (http://lacrosseforums.com/showthread.php?t=66808)

This is illegal and should be reported if seen.

To add onto the list.

11 Ask for the persons home phone# so you can call their parents if said trader scams you.

12 Never lose the address of the person you traded with (especially if you shipped first) in case they scam you, and you need to file a mail fraud

13 if the person your trading with has lower feedback they ship first

14 if the person has not posted pictures of the item, ask for pics so you can check the condition of the item

Hope this helps you guys

Cheers

While yes it is helpful to have phone numbers, this practice doesnt work with some of the older members of the forums, seeing as how they may not live with parents. Not saying it isnt good advice, just saying.

its not a must but it is a good idea to have a paypal account if your are a buyer, if things go wrong and you never recieve an item you can just file a claim

This thread is so well done, I am personally moving it to the FS/WTB Forum and making it a sticky. This will be the users guide to trading/selling on TLF from now on. PLEASE USE IT PEOPLE, it may be common sense, but you should check in here to make sure you have everything done on here before you make that trade/sale.

i also think a good one is if you are getting electronics like ipod, xbox, wii etc.. that they ship first unless they have a ton of positive feedback, just so you can make sure the item works and you dont trade 200 bucks in stuff for a broken ipod
