for the last two or so years i have wanted to learn lacrosse but never really acted on it, since there were no local teams in my area. about two months ago i moved to the east coast. my new school has a team thats just started a week and a half ago, right now they are doing conditioning and are going to choose the team in about 3 weeks.
i havent ever played a team sport and am quite new to lacrosse. right now im basically looking for a crash course on training, rules, skills, ect... so that i might have a chance at playing defense...

Well first welcome to TLF (the lacrosse forums), it truly is the most helpful lacrosse site out there. And also welcome to lacrosse, its a great sport and you will enjoy everything it has to offer.

As I said TLF is a great place to learn, so search around the forums using the search bar. You will find basically everything or anything you need. Other good sites to look at that are helpful: http://www.uslacrosse.org, http://insidelacrosse.com, http://tv.insidelacrosse.com/, http://insidelacrosse.com/page2.cfm?month=&display=8&start=101, http://e-lacrosse.com/
One last thing to remember is to just have fun. Thats what sports are for is to have fun, don't let it stress you out, if you get nervous just relax. You said that this is your first team sport, so just some advice so you will fit in with your teammates. Be respectful to everyone, especially guys that are already on the team or have been on the team in the past. And be very respectful to the coaches, no matter what they make you do or say, do it without any lip. And always hustle on and off the field even at practices, it shows the coaches you are really trying and that you care.
Overall just always give your all and just have fun and of course be yourself.
Good luck

I am also relatively new to lacrosse.
I have played basketball my whole life and then switched to lacrosse this year.
Just give a lot of hustle, especially on ground balls. Effort and hard work will make up for many skills that have not been developed yet. Have fun and PLAY HARD.

I'd get at improving your conditioning. Lacrosse = constant physical running.
start with basic fundamentals like cradling, passing, catching, mobile passing and catching, etc. I'd recommend learning basic stick handling with a shorty before learning to use a pole.
