If you don't think that's right, feel free to actually go do your homework. We're lacrosse players...who memorizes this sorta thing?

Keep in mind when doing your research that both parties have changed over time. I believe one has it's roots in the federalist party. Where one party began and another ended could get very subjective.

For a nice general answer you should be able to google it or looke it up in the encyclopedia.

i know of 3 that were early republicans or really jeffersonians of the "Virginia Dynasty" it was jefferson, then madison, then monroe in 1817...boo ya

Like has been noted, it depends on if you mean Republican Party a.k.a the GOP or if you mean whatever conservative party was in power at the time. Which is kind of a misnomer b/c classical liberalism and conservatism share some commonalities in the time of Jefferson and his ilk.
