Does your computer go to a blue screen when you are watching a video? My computer never did that and when we switched to vista it suddenly started to happen. Any help?

Vista takes up a lot of space. Is the whole system slow as well? I would uninstall some programs you don't need or do some general cleanout.

Or just buy a larger new hard drive, and get a RAM upgrade. Ram is generally the reason the bsod appears ("blue screen of death"), so if you start to run a lot of programs, and videos use a lot of RAM all by themselves, then the thing's gonna crash.
I haven't used vista any further than the laptops in Best Buy, and it seems okay, pretty looking, but the look kinda feels weird compared to XP and the other versions of windows. I'm waiting until I need Vista, like if any good pc games come out and they require DX10,then I'll HAVE to get vista (and a new graphics card).

I have had Vista since June. This past summer, I was watching movies almost everyday and no blue screen came up for me.

How much ram do you think is sufficient?

Yeah
Ram is your problem
How much ram do you have now?
You need at least 1gig to run Vista
Around 3 gigs will work great with Vista,
Overall, Vista is a very complicated and expensive operating system, There are better ones on the market,

Is there a way you can check how much ram you have?

Start>Control Pannel>Performance and Maitenance>See basic information about your computer
For XP
I can't wait, the computer I am working with now only has 256 MB and we just ordered a new one that should be here this week with 2GB, and I really need it now that I am trying to get into Ps and stuff

Va- Yeah, 1.5 gigs should run normal apps fine,
If your looking into running more advanced apps, such as Photoshop, etc you really need at least 2 gigs, The more memory, the better.
Vista's a memory hog

I know what you mean. I have 128 MB and it sucks like hell. I'd like to think that I'm an okay PSer, but working with 128 MB sucks.
I'm just going to get a Mac eventually, but have fun w/ those 2 Gigs.

I work at Circuit City in Technology, specifically Computers Sales Associate. Pretty much, people [no profanity] about Vista, but fail to come up with a good reason.
I'm not saying "Vista is great! GO MS!" I'm just saying, some people need to chill out. Vista has its problems, but its improved quite a bit IMO in the past few months.
i have 2 gigs with vista on my laptop and i dont have any problems...the only complaint is that my laptop battery life is only like an hour now when i watch vids.

If anyone needs to know how much memory you're computer can handle go to
www.crucial.com
It'll tell you everything you need to know about your computers memory potential. I thought about juts getting another cheap PC, but I can just purchase a stick of 1gb DDR PC2700/PC3200 and multiply my memory by about 4, all for maybe $40-65

My computer will sometimes randomly like flash to an all black screen for about two seconds. That often happens when watching a video but sometimes when not.
