I'm switching from Middie to Defense this year and i figure i should learn the lingo of all the types of slides. So what differentiates a crease slide from adjacent, etc.?

A crease slide is the package that utilizes the crease defenseman (assuming your team is using one) to make all the slides. He will always be "hot" and ready to make the first slide, where the d-pole on the opposite side of the ball will have the second slide to the crease attackman he was covering.
Adjacent is basically what it sounds like, the defender adjacent to the ball will be making the slide. So, every time the ball moves, the man who is "hot" and ready to slide is going to change. Once the adjacent defender slides, the defender who was beat should move to cover the man he left.
I'm sure someone else can go in more detail, but this is what I've come to learn them as.

yeah, thats pretty much it.. in crease slides, you'll often hear guys saying "I'm 1" "I'm 2", or "I'm hot" and "I'm cold". Its just a way of telling who's ready to go.

can someone explain the "I'm 2" and "I'm hot" situations, on defense i'm still confused whether i'm hot or 2.

a "coma" slide comes from across the crease parrallel to the goal. Usually happens when the defender is drawn from the crease and the ball is dumped down to the crease. Hard to explain...

hot man is first slide, 2 man is the person that comes and fill in for the hot man. usually the original defender goes to the where the 2 man slid from. call you need to make on defense are, hot, 2, left (person left of ball), right, ball, and when you slide, yell slide to alert the other people, when youre hot, ask who has your 2, and whatever else your coach wants you to say

I had seen a coach touch up on this with a few defenders a bit at an Army Lax Camp. Basically, the slide is coming from the opposite side of the crease, and it is meant to come so hard and fast, the shooter should be almost put in a coma. Hence the name, I guess.
