I'm thinking about getting a new Apple Macbook for Christmas. I was wondering who has one and what they think about it.

i dont have one but my little bro (11) just got one yesterday for no f'ing reason from my grandparents and i hate how he gets anything he wants from them him...the irony is that he got it because i complained that he always used mine and never plugged it back in. i may have to steal it and give him my hp...

I want a macbook for christmas too. I have used my cousins, and I really like them. Does anyone know about new macbooks coming out before Christmas? I heard a rumor that there are going to be new aluminum macbooks (instead of the white/black plastic) but I am not sure if that is true. I am glad i saw this thread, becuase i actually just got on the forums to make a new thread pretty much asking the same thing.

They also come with the new OSX operating system which looks pretty sick. I currently own an IBM which sucks because it always gets messed up and I can't even plug my ipod or camera into it.

one bad thing about macbooks is that the arrow keys are rediculously small.

I think that the screen seems kind of small but the screen looks amazing (it has a really nice picture).

There's a rumor going around the industry that both the macbook and macbook pro will be receiving an upgrade before the holiday season. There was a minor spec upgrade with a small bump in processor speed for both of them, but that's not what I'm refering to.

I will be purchasing a macbook pro for myself this christmas, can't wait!

Yea, I heard that some Apple stores received shipments of the Macbooks, but were instructed not to open them.

I've had one since June and they are absolutely amazing. So easy to use and so fast. No crappy programs you'll never use. I'll never go back to PCs/Windows.

I would highly recommend one, seeing as I'm dying to get one myself.

Although be warned, with Leopard still almost brand new, wait as long as possible so that they can get the kinks out. I think it should be fine, but the opening stages of an OS is always a little tricky.

I have a macbook pro and my friend has a macbook. The pro is a ton better but the are the best laptops on the market today at this minute. some people say that some other companys are going to come out wth a better computer but the macbook still has a huge advatage in operating system and all.

I have the black model. While the screen is only 13.5", it's widescreen, and the picture is amazing. I've been using a Mac for the last 14 years, and I would never buy a PC.

I'm sitting in a car outside bestbuy right now posting from my MacBook on a bestbuy wifi hot spot.

Seems to me an aluminum case would be a silly idea because the metal would conduct heat more. Maybe I'm wrong.

I just bought the white 13 point whatever macbook and I love it. So much faster/cleaner/stable than crappy old vista.

specwise and performance-wise, i can list about 20 laptops that are better than the macbook and mb pro..but the thing is....none of them have osx which is awesome...but kind of hard to get used to(im a lifelong windows user, but we have 2 macs in the house)

i completely disagree. the transition from windows to mac is so easy. everything just makes more sense. drag and drop. mac is so much more user friendly.

idk, ive had a mac in my house for maybe a year now(but i dont really ever use it) and i still cant figure out how to maximize a window.

and btw...i am realizing that the touchpad on the macbook isnt that good...like i cant really explain it but i like my hps better..maybe it just something to get used to i dont know..whatever.

Once you switch from a PC to a Mac, you will never want to use a PC again. Mac's are so much better. Mac OS X Leopard is very good as well

i was at an apple store today, and i was looking at the macbooks. I think if you can, get the middle model macbook, because it can write dvds/cds, which may come in handy. It also has a 50% bigger hard drive than the baseline macbook. The middle macbook has a 2.2 GHz processor rather than 2.0 GHz like the baseline macbook.

So coincidental, I also am purchasing an Apple Macbook for Christmas, I can't choose if I want to spend the extra cash and get the Pro because the graphics card in the regular Macbook isn't that nice.

I think you should base your decision off of your needs. For instance, if you need it to be very portable, get the macbook. If you are a gamer, get the macbook pro. If you don't mind the large size, and you can afford it, the macbook pro would be the best becuase of the large hard drive, and the faster processor. The 15.4 inch macbook has an LED backlit screen, which is nice becuase it is brighter/uses less energy.

Somewhat-but-not-really off subject here, but can you buy an external storage device for Macs?

Meade Lacrosse
11-15-2007, 07:31 AM
Yes, most of them work for Macs as well, but you can always check the box for the Info. I know me Seagate 250 GB will work with a Mac.

i was looking around on the apple store website, and i found that if you buy refurbished, it is way cheaper. http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=44BD9AA1&nclm=CertifiedMac here is the link, they also have iPods and other things. i think its a good idea becuase you can save a lot of money this way.

JupiterSailfish
01-19-2008, 12:14 PM
Incase makes a good soft case for the Macbook that I have traveled with several times. How do you like yours?

I've had mine for probably about six months now and I haven't had any problems with it at all. Amazing piece of machinery:clap:

P.S. Do you have an Apple store near you? They have all kinds of cases.

I love my Macbook. The only problem I've had is with Leopard not allowing me to login for a day, but I worked with Apple Care and together we fixed it. If you buy the base model, as I did, you may want to get an external hard drive, because after only two weeks I'm down to 17 gb.

Meade Lacrosse
01-19-2008, 01:16 PM
External is the way to go regardless. Far more practical (for me anyways)

livin4lax09
01-19-2008, 02:26 PM
i've been teetering on about 2-5 gb of free space on my macbook for a good year now. Buy an external. I have two (200gb which is almost filled and 500gb which i run my music library off of) but still i barely have any space on my internal.

I bought my 500 for about $100. There's no reason to not buy externals nowadays, they are so cheap.

you can find good deals here:
http://www.lacie.com/us/products/clearance/products/?id=10007
on really good quality drives.
this is the one i use for my digital photos:
http://www.lacie.com/us/products/product.htm?pid=10949
which i upgraded to a 250gb drive when the warranty expired.

remember that the HD is no longer a user upgradable part (if you have a newer MBP)

If you're getting a macbook, and want to get an external, think about getting the new ones by Apple that let you use time capsule on them wirelessly.

They're starting at $300, I realize how convenient they may be, but you can get that amount of GB's for $170. If someone in a store offered you $130 with the understanding that you would have to connect to the storage device every time you backed something up, would you do it? This may be a better choice for some people and businesses, but I know a lot of people who would rather save the $.

winny is right, they arent a good value as a external HD. it would be a good idea if you had an old wireless base station and wanted to upgrade, but it all you want is the HD there are better options

livin4lax09
01-20-2008, 10:53 AM
yeah, it does a lot of other cool stuff besides just being an external HD. I thought the same as you, winny, when I first saw it, but after reading specs, it's pretty cool.

What are the greatest differences between a mac book and the pro?
Is there anyone here i can talk to on aim or something that know quite abit about macbooks etc.?

just check out the apple website it gives you all the differences as to size colour spec, everything you'd need to know really.

http://www.apple.com/uk for you Snell!

I use the MacBook but have had the memory upgrade.
(also you can get a MacBook from the Apple Shop in the Traford Centre and if you tell them you're a student they will give you like 12% off.

I got my upgraded macBook with all the extra cover and insurance etc, for less than the RRP on the standard one!

WinnytheSully

yah, definitely make sure you all get the student discount, I saved a hundred on mine
