ok, im getting my wisdom teeth out in about 2 weeks, and I had a question for all who have experience in the matter.
I'm pretty nervous, and my main question is:
should I use Novocaine, laughing gas, or completely knocked out with general anesthesia?
im leaning twoards the general anesthesia, cause I dont wanna be awake for 1.5 hours while they rip apart my jaw.
any help is appreciated

I think there is a pretty big thread on this if you haven't seen it. I'd go with general anesthesia because I'd get pretty bored just laying there for an hour and a half.

get general anesthesia, I got mine out end of august, man that sucked. couldn't eat for a week, had to have smoothies and stuff. Plus, they gave me vikadin for pain, very powerful pain killer, man.. for 3 days I could barely walk lol... anyway, it sucks and you gonna miss about 3-4 days of school. Don't be nervous though, it heals quickly, just watch tv and movies all day, It hurts the first 2-3 days, but after that it should go away, the swelling only lasts about 4-5 days. just put ice on that. Anyway good luck, it isn't fun, but without it, it would just make your jaw worse.

I got mine out this past summer. I had laughing gas and novacaine. It took over an hour, but it only seemed like 5 minutes. I listened and watched everything. At one point I saw blood squirt out of my mouth. I didn't feel any pain, but it wasn't very pleasant. The recovery was pretty easy. I only took the pain medicine that first day when I got home. After that I just stuck with advil. It took me about a week before I could comfortably eat normal food again. On top of anything, watch out for dry socket. Google it to find out about it. From what I hear, it's rough.

yeah i've heard of dry sockets, but as long as I use gauze and don't use a straw I should be fine

Go with the general anesthesia. I don't think that you should miss any school because of getting your wisdom teeth removed though, just try to make it on a Friday so you can recover over the weekend. Avoid dry sockets at all costs, they hurt REALLY bad and are just annoying in general.

so now my mom is nervous about the anestheisa and doesn't want me to have it. She thinks it's dangerous or something. How can I convince her otherwise? Oral Surgeons are specially trained to know how to administer anesthesia, right? All help is greatly appreciated, as I REALLY don't want to do it awake......

I got laughing gas and a big ole needle of numbing stuff (anethesia?). The only thing that sucks is that they have to inject the needle all over your mouth and when they were doing the top of my mouth they hit one of the cartilage and broke the needle or something. I was less than impressed and it freaking hurt, since my mouth wasn't numb yet.

It's really not that bad though, I was nervous but it's no big deal. The only sucky part is that you can still feel the dentists cutting your gums and pulling the teeth and such but it doesnt hurt. Weirdest feeling ever.

Yeah I remember that feeling. I could feel pressure and blood as it ran out of my gums. And somehow I could taste the blood. It was really metalic tasting. Like metal or something. The weird thing is that you still don't feel pain. The worst part about being awake is your mentality. You're like "Is that my blood? Nah, couldn't be. Then you see it squirt out of your mouth and you're like "Heh, that's cool." I really didn't care about anything while I was on the laughing gas.

Uhhhhhh, last time I checked, the surgeon is the one who decides what you get because she's the one who went to school for 8 years to learn the answer to these kinds of questions.

I got gassed, than felt a little prick in my arm, looked down, saw two syringes taped to my arm, kinda freaky any other time. Instead of blurting out a 'wtf' I think I said "whoa, I feel really light" everyone laughed, then I woke up in my bed. a day and a half later.

OK so it's done! i don't feel any pain now, just stiff in the mouth. Its 4:45 now, and I woke up at about 3:00
it only took like 40 mins. Do you think it'l hurt later on? cuz now i'm fine.
