Is traditional really harder to maintain than mesh?

Once you get it throwing right, you just need to take care of it (clean it after muddy games and practices, ball and knife it after cleaning it, or preferably only use it in good weather) and the maintenance will be minimal. Maybe tighten a leather here and there, but it's not as bad as it's made to be. It's more work than mesh, but not a lot of work by any means.

depends how well you can string, could take you 1 trad or could take you 500 trads. But eventually your knots will be extremely tight and the leathers totaly stretched and the shooter perfectly placed, ect.

It all depends if it is strung correctly. If the knots are tight, and you do the things WAC said you shouldn't have much of a problem

It does take a little more maintainence when the weather's bad, especially if you take faces like me, but ITS WORTH IT. Well, I think it is anyway. I just started using trad and i'm never ever going back.

why do you think mesh is so highly used today

I think it is because it's easy to string and mantain, but people like all of us Stick Doctors like the maintence and stringing and everything so, as far as your question goes, mesh=easier. I just strung a red trad. I'll post pics later, but once I get used to using a trad I'll switch between mesh and traditional.

its harder to maintain but worth it by far. If you dont know how to string it, theres 2 tutorials on it. Put the effort into it and you'll be glad you did.

like neuf said, trads are a pain to string at first and require a little more maintaining but once you get it, they are by far more superior than mesh...get used to stringing them and you'll be fine, just like stringing mesh, just takes practice....good luck!!! :D

Learn how to string a custom traditional pocket. After you play around with a few pockets and learn what pockets you are good at stringing and all the different types of custom traditional pockets, you can pick what you want and perfect that pocket. But heres a warning: Once you go tradishional you will never wanna go back. There are so many more advantages, and they arent that hard to maintain people are just lazy when they say that.

Like what? There's nothing I can do with a trad pocket that I can't do with a mesh pocket.

But to address the original post: The learning curve for stringing traditional is much longer than it is for mesh and, as such, it takes much longer to learn how to string a reliable, consistent pocket that fits your game. The break in process is also much more intensive and time consuming; doing it properly could take a couple weeks of constant pounding, wetting, throwing and catching. With mesh, once you know what works for you, you can string it and break it in within a couple of hours and have a game ready stick. I still love the process of stringing and using traditional sticks (that's why I continue to do it for fun) but I'll always defer to mesh.
