I am looking at the Level 1-2 Officials Training Manual for 2008 and it states on pg 35 under Mechanic 11: Counting- Offensive Half that Under 2008 NCAA Rules, whenever a ball enters Zone 3 a 10-second count begins, whether the ball is loose or in possession. EXCEPTION: During face-off & before possession is 1st gained, there are no counts.

My question is then if there is scrum on the Team A defensive side (Team B offensive side) you have a count going for Team B then the ball rolls over the midfield line. I think I continue Team B's count and only start Team A's count if they gain posession on they offensive side.
A little help to let me know that I am think right.

The new NCAA rulebook is not yet published, but here is a Rule 4, Section 14 excerpt from the '07 rules:
"The officials will use a visual hand count to enforce this rule. Once
started, the 10-second count will continue until:
a. The opposing team gains possession.
...
Once the officials start a 10-second count on a team, any new count for
that team will also be a 10-second count (even if possession is established
in the defensive end) unless (1) the defensive team had an intervening
possession; or (2) a goal has been scored since that 10-second count."

Additionally, my understanding of the new rules for '08 state that the count starts immediately when the ball enters the offensive attack half of the field (which from what I have read here means that the ball hits the ground past the midline).

So, here is my interpretation without seeing the new rules: whether or not B1 has possession in their offensive attack half of the field, a 10s count starts when the ball enters the offensive attack zone. The count continues even as the ball rolls over the midfield line, since there is yet an intervening possession by A1. If A1 gains possession in their offensive half (their the offensive attack zone), a new 10 second count starts.

Yeah, that's my bad. I wrote that based on the first release of the rule and didn't catch it before we went to press. There's also a line about ball stops for NCAA that stops in mid-sentence. I'm working on a sheet of errata.

The count will start as soon as the ball touches something outside of Zone 4 after entering Zone 4, but not when entering Zone 3 from the Defensive Zone.
