Hey I'm a freshman at my school and the varsity goalie graduated and now the coaches and some of the varsity players have seen me play and I've received a lot of hype I guess coming in. I'm playing varsity this winter and I was wondering how to deal with the pressure. Most people kinda expect me to be unstoppable and don't get that maybe once every few weeks I will have an off game. Anyways, how do you deal with hype?

Hey, im in the same type of positon as you only im a middy and i take face offs and i did fairly well last year at it and everyone expects me not to lose. The way i deal with it is i just use it to train harder and to play my hardest to try and live up to the hype and to not let them down and be a dissapointment to them, and also myself

I am in the almost same exact situation as you. I'm coming onto a lax team who thinks that I can easily start over the senior goalie who is there now, and I think that there is quite a bit of hype about me. Accept the hype. All it should do is make you want to try harder and harder to get better. Which is a good thing. What makes you say that you will not play up to the hype anyways?

Im in the exact same situtation as all of you. whenever I play I go out there with complete confidence and dont think about how everyone expects me to play, I focus on the game and play my best

Actually, I kinda like the hype and I know I can live up to it. I've been training more than ever. Problem is, there is a junior who has played JV the years before and I don't wanna piss him or his friends off. Also, what do you say to the guys that talk about you as this nasty kid thats gonna play varsity you know? I don't know if I should say yeah probably or say no. I've been saying I'm not on it yet, but I'm pretty good, so I'm gonna give it a shot.

yep same thing happened to me. I was the first freshman to play and everyone said by my senior year I would be amazing. My first 3 years playing I had four goals and 6 assists then my senior year I lived up to the hype and got 43 goals. But I think the hype helped me succeed i think

As you grow up, the important thing to remember is that what others think about you is irrelevent. You are your own person, and really, when it comes down to it you have yourself to answer to.

Concentrate on improving yourself, not what others say/think and you will succeed. Set your own goals and work towards them.

You may be able to take some of the emphasis off of yourself by making an effort to put emphasis on the people around you. Show a concerted- and genuine- effort to credit the defense for easy-to-save shots. Try to work with the Junior goalie to make each other better, looking especially for anything that you may be able to learn from him. If you've made your defense & backup goalies ready to compensate for your down days, then you will have made yourself more successful as a goalie... and those teammates will go the extra mile to both help you when appropriate and forgive you when that's appropriate!

Yea, I always like to credit my D, the can make me look good or bad so never argue with them. I really think the Junio hates me so I'm gonna stay away from him and just concentrate on myself. I also try to just say its up to the coaches and whatever is best for the team and stuff so I don't sound like an ***.

that happened to me last year but it was our varsity goalies senior year so I have a season under my belt. Dont sweat it. they all have made mistakes and wont hold you fully accountable. they probably already pick on oneof there middies and you will only get constructive critism and be offered to practice with the varsity team on weekends or when ever they goof off. your a freshman in a varsity game, your only expected to do so well, and if you surpass than cheers, and its not like you can fail.
