Hey I am soon going to be trying out for two top level eigth grade teams and I am wondering what I can do to stick out from the group and what shows a good attack/middie.

showing up in shape never hurts, being a team player , hustle , vision
the ability to feed as well as finish, pretty much the complete package

The worst thing you can do is be a ball hog to try and show the coaches you're good.

Hustle is never overrated.

Aside from the obvious lacrosse skills, one way that you can differentiate yourself is by demonstrating lacrosse IQ through communication with your teammates. If you tryout includes scrimmage situations, use chatter in appropriate situaions: "ball down", "release", "I got man", "I got ball", "here's your help", etc. You'll look like a knowledgeable, confident player that can function well in a team environment. You'd be surprised at how many young players show up at tryouts and never say a word. If two guys are fairly equal in skills the guy that's communicating with his teammates (and saying the right things) will certainly get the coaches attention. It shows that you are coachable.
Also, play defense with your feet instead of wild stick checks. Often guys show up at tryouts trying to impress with their agressiveness. When the coach sees a guy hacking away he's probably thinking about all of the potential slashing penalties more than being impressed with the stick checks. I focus much more on footwork than stick checks when looking at D guys.
Lastly, never volunteer to sub yourself out during a scrimmage. After a few runs I'll ask a middie line who needs a breather. It's a trick question as the guy that wants to sub gets graded down. Going back to the hustle we are looking for guys with endurance that want to play. Never volunteer not to play.

Hey guys tryouts were yesterday and they went amazingly. So hopefully I'll know if I made the team shortly, although I am pretty sure I made it because I tried out as middie and me included there were 7 middies =). So about this team, it is called Icon Lacrosse. It is run by pro players Josh Sims, Trevor Teirny, and Greg Bastis. I am also guessing that the team will be sponsored by Warrior, and will be attending Vail, which I am highly looking forward too.

We'll take all the credit. The hundreds of hours you spent on the wall and in the gym and on the track really had no impact. Your field sense can be attributed to the comments posted above, not hours of playing and listening to your coaches.
So when I say 'CONGRATULATIONS!!!" on making the team, CoLaxKid should step aside and pass the honors on to the rest of us.

hahaha. dont worry you were obviously just making a joke.
Anyway congrats on making the team.
but i have a question myself. Pick n' roll said never to offer to sub out. but i play in highschool and my coach said if your gettin tired sub-out so that we can get fresh legs out their because if your out their breathing hard and not running well your more of a liability and hurting your team. and our best player who broke the record in goasl last year subbed himself out a descent amount instead of being taken out. so why couldnt he just sub himself out during a scrimmage?

lol yes our Denver based buddy does have a sense of humor, when I got the call I specifically told the man that 3pp told me exactly what to do and he deserves all the credit. The thing PN'R said was just for tryouts though you need as much fieldtime as possible there.
