Ask LaxRef if there's any rule against lettering on flags. I doubt he'll find an objection. Officially.

I'm buyin' new flags from these guys.

The safety on the Baltimore Ravens didn't like them, I guess. Threw one into the stands in the last game after yet another penalty on their team.

Here's an off-topic question, but it does have to do with rules and officiating (just not for lacrosse):

After the Patriots TD, Baltimore got two USC penalties, then they were offside on the XP. All three penalties were enforced on the ensuing kickoff, so the patriots kicked off from the Baltimore 30 yard line. Being so close, the Patriots blasted the kick out of the end zone, and Baltimore started with possession at the 20 on the touchback.

But what would have happened if the kick had gone out of bounds? Where would Baltimore have gotten possession?

(BTW, in general, when you're kicking off from your opponent's 30 is a great time to try an onside kick!)

I believe kicking off out of bounds is a rekick and results in a 10 yard penalty, pushing the kick-off back to the 40 yard line (talk about tug of war!). Then the Ravens would have a couple of other USC's resulting in a kickoff at the 10! So, does the offsides recovery result in a TD?

That hasn't been the NFL rule in quite some time.

I'm not as familiar with NFL rules, so I'll use NCAA rules. Following a kick out of bounds, the receiving team has three options:
1) Re-kick with a 5 yard penalty,
2) Take the ball where it went out of bounds, or
3) Take the ball 25 yards (in this case the 5-yard line) from where it was kicked.

They would probably take option 2, unless they really wanted them to re-kick:dummy:

NFL.com says:

When a kickoff goes out of bounds between the goal lines without being touched by the receiving team, the ball belongs to the receivers 30 yards from the spot of the kick or at the out-of-bounds spot unless the ball went out-of-bounds the first time an onside kick was attempted. In this case, the kicking team is penalized five yards and the ball must be kicked again.

Thus, if the Patriots could have kicked the ball OOB between the 5 yard line and the goal line, the Ravens would have had to take possession at the 5 instead of the 20. Do you think Belichick is kicking himself for missing a chance to show how smart he is?

Hence why I don't officiate football!

These flags are great for 3 reasons:
1. Throwing them during a work meeting when my boss states something that is technically not correct (if he becomes upset, I'll remind him that I officiate and I could not help it)

2. Use for everytime I hear a fan or a coach misinterpret a rule

3. Presidential candidate debates

Is it a 30 second conduct or a 1 minute unsportsmanlike if a coach tosses one of these out in response to a flag on the field? :chuckle: Guess it could depend on which flag they get.
