I posted this on the OLA forum, but figured there are enough knowledgeable people here to push the cause. Here is the OLA forum post:
------------------------------------------------------------
I see the Star has a poll up today in the sports section that asks:

The Lou Marsh Trophy honouring Canada's outstanding athlete of the year will be awarded Tuesday. Who's your pick?

- Sidney Crosby, hockey (Hart Trophy winner)
- Dwayne De Rosario, soccer (MLS all-star, MLS Cup MVP)
- Russell Martin, baseball (Silver Slugger award)
- Steve Molitor, boxing (IBF world champion)
- Steve Nash, basketball (NBA all-star, league MVP runner-up)
- Sarah Pavan, volleyball (NCAA women's athlete of the year)
- Emma-Jayne Wilson, horse racing (first female Queen's Plate winner)
- Other

Let's see, no lacrosse players eh?

No John Grant Jr. who broke scoring records and won league regular & playoff MVP on his way to win an NLL Championship with the Rochester Knighthawks. Then is a member of Team Canada who win the World Indoor Lacrosse Championships. Then breaks MLL scoring records on his way to being named league MVP as a member of the Rochester Rattlers. Then goes on to win his second consecutive Mann Cup as a member of the Peterborough Lakers.

Did I miss anything? Oh yes, he was also the Mann Cup MVP.

Not having John Grant Junior on the list for the Lou Marsh Trophy is a joke. A really bad, narrow minded and insidious joke on you Canada.

But that is nothing new for the Lou Marsh award now is it?

I think every lacrosse person in Canada should make a comment to the Star about this disgusting snub:

Let them know...
------------------------------------------------------------

Make that every lacrosse person period. Even our US cousins and friends should let the Star know what a joke this is.

Steve Nash & Sydney Crosby have been on their share of magazine covers over the past year ... and so has John Grant Jr.!

Probably none. The point was that he's been on the cover of IL more than anyone else lately. I think we all know that lacrosse doesn't make it's way into general sports magazines like SI very often. I think the current issue of IL sums up where a lot of people think he stands in comparison to other players in the game today.

What's Crosby done to make him the only hockey player on that list?

Okay honestly, Lacrosse may not be a big money sport like hockey or basketball. But horse racing? That's a little bit weak. Lacrosse is our official summer sport.

It never fails to amaze and disappoint me how little local coverage lacrosse gets in our city. They run major articles on sports that are even more fringe that lacrosse, like skeleton, bobsled, and cup-stacking but even Jr A ball barely gets mentioned. Sad.

Sidney Crosby has been announced as the Lou Marsh Trophy winner. Lets see ... that's Hockey 11 ... Lacrosse 0.

Ditto on Junior. Watching him play for the Hawks is amazing. Can not describe the mad rush watching him score and assist. He is a phenomenal player who has shown himself to also be a team player. Watching him perform, you can see how he works with his teammates and it is obvious how they look up to him. He deserves the recognition of the sports journalists, sport casters and at least the nomination for the Marsh Trophy.

Yea honestly

Youngest NHL captain ever in his second year as a pro..
2nd youngest scoring champion in his second year as a pro.
League MVP in his second year as a pro.

I guess that's nothing.

That's not nothing, Sid is the truth... BUT (haha) JG won two MVPs, two scoring titles, and two championships in three different leagues, (along with a world indoor championship) in the same year. That's just insane. The guy was the absolute best at his sport in 2007 for the entire year, not season, year.
