Why are girl's sticks featured on the men's rule book?

Great pick up. My guess is that they paid someone to do the cover art who didn't know the difference between a men's stick and a women's stick and they used the more colorful women's sticks for the picture. Those are definitely women's sticks though.

Also, did you notice that there is a woman (Patricia Thomas) on the men's rules committee (see page 5)? Pretty unusual, there are very few women associated with the men's game at any level as coaches, referees, or players, so I would not expect a woman on the college national rules committee. Does anyone know her or what her background is?

Before that cover I had thought it was just the parents and fans who didn't know their lacrosse!

I can see how something like this could happen. The production cycle on these things is very content-based, and it wouldn't surprise me if no one on the committee saw the cover before it went to press, since the cover is often created as a separate file.

Still, I'm sure there will be lots of good-natured ribbing involved here.

On a quick look through I didn't see anything in gray that surprised me; I'll have to take a closer look to see what else has changed.

Maybe it's a picture of the stick heads that will be legal in 2010....

At least the NFHS covers has males on it. It is a basic cover and the US Lacrosse logo is not present as it was last year.

In the 2008 NCAA Rule Book on Advancing the Ball into the Attack Area there is no mention of a 10-second count beginning if a clearing pass goes over a player's head and lands between the center line and attack area restraining line. It definitely says AFTER bringing the ball into the attack area and then hits the ground in Zone 3. I read in a memo that the 10-second count would begin in a situation where a clearing pass landed in zone 3.

###

MEMORANDUM

October 25, 2007

TO: Men’s Lacrosse Head Coaches and Officials.
FROM: Willie Scroggs, chair
NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Rules Committee.
SUBJECT: Rules committee updates and interpretations.

3. Rule 4-13-c, Ten-second count. The new rule regarding the ten-second count on a ball being thrown outside the attack area by the offense will be enforced in all situations (e.g., a shot which hits the goalpost or a player and rebounds outside of the attack area).

A new approved ruling was added to assist with this rule:

SITUATION: B1 throws a clearing pass to B2 that goes over his head and touches the ground across midfield. Does a 10 second count start when the ball touches the ground across midfield? RULING: Yes.

Which way are we going to go? By the Rule Book or the memo?

Somebody caught it, because it's fixed on the printed copy, which I got in the mail today. I wonder if they'll update the .pdf.
