So leats say that in a game i had made a save and couldn find someone open and then ran the ball up past the midline

when i cross the midline do i need to worry about being offsides? or should i yell for a middie to stay back?

you must have a middie back, goalies are special but we're not special enough to not have to worry about offsides

Well put. There has to be three (four including the goalie) on defensive side of the field, and three on the offensive side of the field.

You must have 3 on your offensive end and 4 in your defensive end at all times. It doesn't matter who's where except on a faceoff, in which case the goalie has to be behind the DCL.

If you are down 4 or more players in NFHS, the players come off in the order middie, defense, goalie, attack. You can quibble with the wording, but that's the basic idea.

Quick question on NFHS rules.

5 players in the box on penalties. 3 players stay at attack and goalie and one defender at defense. Can the defender or goalie carry over the midfield line????rule 4-11 says a a team is not offside when 4 or more players are in the box and 3 players must stay in the offensive zone.

They aren't offside as long as they keep 3 in the offensive end and all of the other players in the defensive end. 4-11 does not mean that the goalie or the defender can cross midfield in that situation, just that you don't penalize them for not having 4 guys in the defensive end when they are not legally capable of doing so.

On a slightly different note, it SHOULDN'T be you who has to worry about offsides, but your teammates. If they're doing their jobs, you should be able to focus on just working the ball upfield & avoiding the ride. While you should be heads-up enough to call for a middie to stay back, it should be the ultimate responsibility of the 9 guys without the ball to keep somebody back for you.
