i strung a stick for one of my friends and he said that it has "topspin". for him the ball seems to sink faster,(he has told me this before). The stringings are solid. good pocket depth, everything is tight, nice channel, but i can tell his passes sinking... any help?

tell him its in his head n he just has to get used to a different pocket. thats what i say when people say something about the pockets i string for them. after a while they're fine.

it is wierd because my stick did that too but it went away and his brother can throw with it fine but i dont want to be the a hole that tells him to change his mechanics

its called Whip, there are several threads on tlf on how to reduce it, just type something like, "how to get rid of whip" in the search bar. is the pocket on the higher side, or of the lower side?

yeah, I'm pretty sure it's near impossible to put topspin on a lacrosse ball to the point where it sinks faster.

Your boy is talking about whip.

Maybe the channel is too tight, or yah theres too much whip.

topspin? lol the only way you would be able to get topspin with a lax stick is to.....well i don't think there really is a way. because you would have to get the rotation of the ball to be forward, UNLESS you threw very underhand. your prolly not doing that. AND even then if you did manage to get topspin, it would not matter because lax balls have smooth surface.

examples of balls that you would be able to change the direction of the ball with spin, tennis ball, golf ball, and a baseball. they have 'irregular' surfaces. like a baseball has stitches that enables the pitcher to make it curve through the air. what happens is the stitches create air resistance and causes the ball to move opposite of the rotation of the ball. a lax ball has no such surfaces to create air resistance.

so the stick is throwing the ball down? possibilities; there is a lip that the ball is getting caught on in the pocket, the ball is hitting the scoop, or your friends has no strength and cant make the pass.

yea, a lacrosse ball is not a baseball. It is perfectly round so there is nothing that would make it sink.

yea its def whip...you cant put top spin on a shot/pass

yeah... and no way you can get top spin on a ball, unless you throw underhand... help this man with his whip...

yeah, you cant get top spin with a lax ball unless you throw all the way underhand, theyre smotthe so the wont sink like a baseball either, so its just whip.

from what ive seen a smooth ball can have spin. look at a ping pong ball...smooth but it can curve through the air drastically... still dont think that is what is happening here. just thought id throw it in.

just tell him to restring it as low as possible with very loose, non whippy shooters. or push with his top hand alot more.

a ping pong ball has a semi rough surface, plus it is extremely light therefore making it very easy to curve/spin.

i think all of you are wrong, and jumping to a conclusion, obviously he did not literally mean " topspin" i think he just meant that sumthin is making the ball come out slower on the release, if thats true then that would explain why it seems to sink because its slowed by something such as the channel to tight, like laxman01 said u all should have better thought this out because i dont think DanTheMan is retarded im pretty sure we all figured out its impossible to get topspin on the release of the ball but nice one
