Check out your firewall settings. Make the iTunes service a permanent allowance.

I don't have Vista, so I'm going off what I think should happen. Open up your connections, and from there open up your firewall settings. Under Exceptions, put a check next to iTunes, or add it to an allowance list or whatever.

Can't help you any more than that bro. Try going through control panel, then to network or connections settings, or something like that.

Use your head. Use your intuition to figure where you'd think something about the internet would be.

get XP?
seriously, It looks like reinstalling itunes may be a good idea. If that doesn't work, make sure your Norton and the Macafee aren't stopping it from connecting. Post here if nothing works.

It's not iTunes, its Vista.

It's not iTunes, its Vista.

Vista was released before it was "ready" so that instead of having only a couple of people testing it in labs, Microsoft could have thousands testing its new software and find the problems.

Make sure to send in every problem report you have so that in the future you and anybody else who has the problem can get it fixed.

You're fed up with Apple? You ought to be fed up with the Company who refuses to let you do much with your OS. Considering that nothing seems to be working on your Vista, don't think its likely that Microsoft ought to be blamed, instead of the company whose product, along many others on your computer, doesn't work?

What I mean is, you shouldn't be fed up with Apple at all, or any other manufacturer whose products don't work on your computer as a result of Vista.

check both the apple and microsoft sites. there should be faq sections. start there, and if nothing helps, call tech support for ms vista

Ahhhhhh, people who are trigger-happy to blame Vista, shocker. Even if Vista is his problem, can anyone who posted here actually explain why? And no, "Vista sucks, MS sucks, Apple can't be to blame!" is not a reason.

This has been a widespread issue with iTunes for some time now, and it's certainly not only with Vista. In some cases it's firewall issues (doesn't seem to be your issue), sometimes it's web proxy setting issues, it can be a number of things. There's a lot of material online regarding this issue(s). I don't use iTunes anymore, and never had the problem, so I'm no expert on the subject. However, I know that it is a well known recurring issue. Google your error message and start poking around, hopefully you can find something.

Also, if you ever decide to stop using iTunes to purchase music and just use it as a media player, I would suggest switching to Media Monkey. Does (as far as I know) everything iTunes can, and in my opinion does it better. It's a great little program.

Why would you hate to hear people blame vista? Its a well known fact that Vista is a dud.My uncle who llives up in baltimore who has(had) to use vista now and he ahd to wrtie a manual on it(his job is to write manuals for things like programs, softwar all the way to military weapons) he sais Vista is the worse program hes ever used. It has so many problems that its hard to find out where to start. haha actually coincidentally the Mac commercial is on right now when the PC guy sais"actually i just switched back to XP a few weekks ago, so much happier" i reccomend the same to you. ive never had a problem in iTunes, but i use a iBook G4.

But anyway. go to XP. Or if your looking for a more user friendly computer get a Mac. very intuitive and easy to use. but you sacrafice playing popular PC games.

Telling the kid to buy a new computer is probably not going to help at all. I'd suggest trying a different media program like the media monkey one listed above if it still doesn't work after you reinstall itunes. The only problems i've really been having with Vista is Windows Installer. It works like 50% of the time and the rest of the time it chooses to stop responding. :banghead:
