I decided to try out a wood shaft, and my friend wanted one too. They're both red oak, and the black stained one with the Triton is mine. Some of you might remember that RP from a while back. Anyway, tell me what you think about them.

How do you like the red wood (I've heard it splinters more so can you comment on that)?
They look sick

They look sickI just finished putting the poly on them, so I can't comment on the splinterage but they feel really solid. They don't feel super heavy, but you defenitely notice that they're heavier than my metal shafts. If you need to know, I've compared them to an 803 and a Klyte.

Anyone know of anyway to make them have a lighter wood color, or do I need white oak for that?

White Oak is not much lighter in color than Red Oak.

Hickory is a very light colored wood though.

he used red oak, you couldnt red wood because red wood is a soft wood and it would break quite easily, and as long as you seal the shaft with poly(or other wood sealers) it shouldnt splinter at all.

I box pinched it. The scoop started out pretty flat. I don't like the normal scoop. The scoop seems like it's meant to be pinched. (Of course it's really not, but it's better pinched. :naughty: )

I used Onyx stain by someone. I found it at Lowe's. I just put three coats on to get the coverage even and the color dark. The ball doesn't fall out the bottom. The saddle keeps the leathers tight and the box pinch doesn't let the ball hit them that hard. It just takes one cradle and it's in the pocket. It's a cool feel.

I'll probably get some pictures of the dimensions up later tonight.
