i was just looking around on e-lacrosse, and i found this in the headlines.

i thought it was an odd idea, but an interesting one. Im not sure how big it is out there, but it would seem that it could potentially fly out there, since there's a definite lack of professional sports team.

what do you guys think? is this an insane idea, or something that just might work

MODS: mind changing the title to nova? lol :banghead:

It might work, but the NLL have to be real careful about which city..........

if they go through with the team it will be huge because the fanbase would be all of NS and NB, lacrosse is growing exponentialy out here, every year more kids start playing, an NLL team would just help push it that much more

They don't really have any major sports franchises, east coast Canada. I'll bet that the region would definately support a team.

My biggest beef with the league is the manner in which they grant teams to owners with big cash in low percentage lacrosse markets. The list of teams that have come and gone is long. Lacrosse isn't for everyone, and the intricacies of the game make it difficult for the inexperienced to follow. Sure you're always going to get the violence lovers (I personally love a little contact) but, the true fans of the game go to see so much more than the odd fights and major checks.

I'm of the opinion that it's too late to turn a majority of the money holding population (adults) from fans of one sport to another. The league has to seek areas where the game is already established and (for lack of a better term) exploit them. That is where the growth is, that is where the security is and that is where the game will find it's next level.

Large population, few alternatives sporting wise, an existing lacrosse savvy fan base, I don't see how they could go wrong. (other than more expense on the travel side for teams)

I think the team would do better fan base wise if they had a team in Moncton, New Brunswick. Now I realize that their rink can only hold about 3500 people, but if they did have a good sized rink there it would do better because Moncton is about 2 hours outside of Halifax, 1.5 hours outside of Saint John, 1.5 Hours outside Fredericton, so that looks like it would be the best bet. In my eyes the only thing holding that back is the size of the rink.

How many people are going to want to drive 2 hours each way to watch a lacrosse game? 7:30 game, have to leave by 5 oclock, game finishes around 1030, you get home by 12:30? Maybe once a year, but not 8 times a year.

Your better off having the team in the Heart of Halifax and drawing that crowd 8 times a year.
