hey coaches.im a goalie and im wondering what are the chances of a college coach(any division) recruiting a back up goalie(that has a good amount of playing time in season).have any of you recruited a back-up goalie before? I ask this question because I might be backup next year but i want to play in college.thanks.

You MAY get recruited, but only if someone has seen you play and been impressed.
Keep in mind that Tom Brady was a backup quarterback at Michigan. Talent gets noticed, but the NFL has a more robust recruiting system than college lax.
Give up on any hope of getting a scholarship. Unless you get a coach interested, give up on having lax help you get admitted. However, find a school that you want to attend with a lax club and go there. Then go out for lax.

yes but Tom Brady got recruited because he was a beast in H.S., not a backup, so he was obviously going to get noticed especially with his dad sending out 60 tapes to colleges...what year are you because if your only a sophmore or younger you got plenty of time

to be honest, it really depends....
As an assistant, one of my main jobs is recruitment, and I'll look at anyone I feel can help my team. But a back-up goalie doesn't generally wow me, or anyone else I know. You might be served well to head to some camps or visit specific schools you are interested in and sit down with the coaching staff.

As a college coach- therefore someone NOT involved with the training, tryouts, & politicking of any particular high school team- I come in having no idea why one player is a starter while another a backup. My first 2 years as a women's coach, I had a great athlete on defense who would have started on most other teams, but she was competing against 2 FABULOUS athletes.
Or take the example of pro cyclist Jan Ulrich- he won the 1997(?) Tour de France and was rightly regarded as the best cyclist of his generation. But then he came up against the best EVER, Lance Armstrong.
A coach who won't consider a backup is a fool, but that backup has to really prove that he or she is committed, intelligent, and a hard worker who deserves a chance.
Finally, I'll look at a starting JV goalie from a state contender in NJ, NY, or MD over a starting varsity goalie from many other areas almost any day.

Get to camps... it's your only hope of being recruited.... You can still play, most colleges have an MCLA school in the very least, & you'll play. To be recruited, you'll have to impress at some camps.

Yea hit up them camps. You can't get recruited if all coaches see is you being a good water boy and getting splinters in your *** from the pine. Although every team needs a good water boy...
