Just got my letter in the mail boys!!!!! WOOOO! There gunna be in Armstrong on the 26. Just wonderin if anybody else is goin? If I'm even goin, it says space is limited to 40 players, 4 goaltenders, and being a goaltender, a 1 in 4 chance is a long shot, but one im totaly willing to try for!

one question..how are they deciding the 44 players , by the first 44 paid or is it by invitiation alone ? I am sure the other scouts attending the camp want to see the best 44 players from the North and Okanagan, not the fastest 44 with their cheques.

umm , to be completely honest, i have no idea. I'd assume from the form that I had to fill out that they're going to be calling former coaches to find out more about the player. But the letter came as a total suprise so I don't have any information except for what was on the letter.
What is this about? Non Lower Mainland or Island players get evalutated to see if they're A material?

what it is is a one day evaluation camp for interior and northern graduating midgets so the Jr A team scouts can have a look at most of these kids who the scouts may not have seen prior to the midget draft in February.
Great idea. Don't overlook anyody that way. Do you happen to know the exact date of the draft? By the looks of it, LaxJunkies is not updating and they showed the results last year and I can't seem to remember the League site putting it up so are we going to be uninformed this year?
Lacokanostra, what team were you on for minor?

Im from small town Cranbrook Outlaws. Ya, Vimoose, I think you hit it right on the head. After talking to a couple other players from my team it sounds like the guy called the coaches, and asked which players were worth looking at, then they sent around letters seeing how many takers they had. I mean coming from Cranbrook, we play our entire regular season in Alberta, along with all our tournements, so the chances of actually being seen by a scout from a team in B.C are slim to none, except during provincials. So this is definatly an oppurtinuty I want to capitilize on.
Yeah If you have the chance, go for it. I may be mistaken but the only major team in Cranbrook is the Cranbrook Elite, Alberta Teir III Junior team right?

LaCokaNostra..you are right.. coaches were spoken to and players names were suggested ,this camp will be a good show of talent for players from outside the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island. I am sure the stands will be full of scouts from Junior and Intermediate teams. Should be an interesting day

I have a question, this is literally my 2nd coming up in lacrosse and i was born of the year 1992. Does this mean this is my graduating year for midgets? Also ive been practicing year round since i started and i feel ive improved of a massive scale. If i couldnt make this evaluation camp, is there any other possible way to get noticed by a junior team. I know a Zones team would be the first option but living in Williams lake makes it hard to get on a zones team, the closest one begin Prince George which is 3 hours away. so on top of those things is their any other means of getting myself out there. ive pretty much got the size thing covered, im 6"2 230 but i just need some options.

this is your graduating year for midget which means your eligible for the draft in Feb 09. Definitely go out and try for your zone Summer games team, the more you play against the best the better player you will become. I presume most Jr A teams will have scouts there at the Summer Games,Provincials etc.. But not being drafted isn't the end of the world. Not being drafted gives you the freedom to shop yourself to all teams. The chances of making the jump from midget to Jr A is less than winning the 649. If you are that committed to lacrosse and that good, next year look to make an Intermediate team either on the Lower Mainland or the Island. The logical path is midget,Intermediate ( A or B ) then Junior. you have three years of Junior and there are lots of junior B teams around to start with. Jr A scouts are paying much more attention to the Great White North now ( P George league ) so keep playing and be willing to relocate. You got size and use that to your advantage.

Ya Jofc, ur right about the Elite, this'll be our secound season running, my dad started up the junior league and ran it all year with about 12 guys, including a goalie, and that was on the days that they werent to hung over to play :D!!! But it was good, they came secound in their league, only loosing to medicine hat. There really is alot of talent in Cranbrook, and Kimberely, a town 20 minutes away.
And Scrom, just keep trying man, keep going for every oppurtunity available, and always ask for more. Last season was the first year I started for our local team, and by the end of the season I had practiced with the Junior A Poco Saints, and the Intermediate A Coquitlam Adanacs. It's all about the love of the game boys.
Kimberley, love the place, only town out west where it's still cool to wear leiderhosen. That's cool you got to practice with those teams, getting in ties with A teams will only help your chances at this camp. As for playing hungover, it's just on thing players have got to deal with cause what else are you going to do, not drink the night before?

Not all players drink the night before and play hungover. Certainly not the type of players most scouts are looking forward.

Vimoose, I think your taking what me and Jofc are saying to seriously, I mean I absolutly agree with you, not all players drink the night before, none of the smart ones do atleast, but I was taking about a first year teir 3 junior B team that consists of hockey players and goons. So I may have taken what you said the wrong way, but it seemed to me like preaching to the choir.

hey thanks vimoose, yeah i do plan to try out for zones team in the great white north, it should be fun. but a quick qestion, just to see what i need to do to get attention to myself. Do you know of Isaak Hack and if you do, how well is he known outside of the great white north leauge?
vimoose
01-12-2008, 03:25 PM
Hack is well known outside the GWN, my son played against him two years ago in the BC's in PG. Saanich was the only team he didn't score against in the BC'S . My son shut him down. Jr Shamrocks drafted 3 players from the GWN last year and other teams drafted also so they are paying attention.

hey thanks vimoose, I was considering giving up on the dream but yeah now in light of hearing how much attention is being given to the northern parts of BC I believe I'll keep on trucking. Oh also, you best be watching out for Lloyd Kenny this coming season, I'll be sure to impress/intimidate/lose(losing due to williams lakes poor lacrosse program) but none the less win in the hearts of everyone lol

Don't give up your dream to play Jr A. Go out and try for the Summer Games team, play every game like a seventh game in the playoffs. scouts look for stuff like that, heart, sportsmanship on top of talent. The way the game is going today players are like specialists, if you are great of defence you can still make it, you don't need to be an offensive weapon. Teams have places for role players, the goons are history but tough intimidating defence players are still needed.
I did receive scouting reports on players from PG,Quesnel and Mckenzie this year so we are watching the GWN.

yeah i can actually tell you why you didn't receive anything from Williams lake lol. Last year the 5 midgets that are in our league(me being one), were forced to play bantams due to lack of a midget team. But yeah your right this year im going to go out and play my best and try my hardest and see where my effort gets me. Ive been practicing every day outside for the whole off-season and i think after i get my agility down come spring ill be better than ever. But all in all thank you Vimoose or Brian(whichever is good) for giving me the information and hope that i think i really needed.

Scrom..you are welcome..hang in there and have fun. Play bangboard as i call it everyday. Bangboard is just finding a wall somewhere and just pass and catch the ball , the bang comes as you get better and you throw the ball harder. good luck this upcoming season

i remember someone saying a fw years ago that that camp is a cash grab.
but burnaby recruits from even ontario and pays for housing in bc so hey can play, so it would be a pretty impossible team to make from an open try out...
but good luck

Vimoose, do you mean end of the Midget provincials? If so I'd totaly agree with you. I peaked out last year during provincials, and now, 5 months later, I in alot worse shape, and my game is way off. So if I had had the chance to participate in this came in August, it most definatly would make a difference my performance.
Oh, and my dad talked to the guy running the camp about the rumour that there wasn't enough people to make it worthwhile. He said considering the deadline for submissions is the 20th, and he's the only one that knows the numbers right now, that what you heard is just that, a rumour.

Titan..this camp IF it happens is for the Midget Draft that occurs in three weeks for the JR A teams. The chances of someone jumping from midget to Jr A are almost impossible. Just the difference in physical size and strength makes it almost impossible. You may get first year Intermediate players called up to get some experience with very limited minutes .
This camp is a good idea , hopefully it comes together. Myself I think a better time of the year ( end of August ) just after the provincials would be a better time.
