I guess all the whining about John Grant being left off the Lou Marsh Trophy is starting to pay off with the Star. Thanks Allan Ryan!

Oh, they love this game, all right, but when the average salary runs about $15,000 (U.S.) and the max tops out about $28,000 ... well, life in the National Lacrosse League doesn't quite pay the bills.

Okay, for a very small handful it might. Rochester scoring machine John Grant, for instance, who, with the summer's outdoor pro league, various clinics and camps and the odd endorsement, can pretty much centre his entire lifestyle around the game.

For the rest, though, including virtually all the Toronto Rock ... well, this is where real life comes in. Meaning, yes, day jobs.
