2008 NFHS Rules, please

10 minutes prior to the game the two officials decide the field is unsafe and, therefore, unplayable. The home AD is adamant that the game will be played.

Next step? Please defend your answer using the rulebook and not references to other sports, etc.

NFHS 2-6-1 says your jurisdiction begins when you arrive on the field of play.

NFHS 1.9.1 SITUATION C says the safety of all participants is paramount.

Based on those two statements, I would not allow the game to proceed.

(Actually, I don't care what the rules say. If I believe it's unsafe, we're not playing, period. The AD can file a complaint with the league or my LOA, and they'll tell him to get stuffed.)

I would add NFHS 2-6 art 3 "An official may suspend the play of the game for any reason deemded necessary for the proper enforcement of the rules or conduct of the game."

I would say that a safe field is necessary for the conduct of the game, and suspend the game until a safe field is provided.

I could not find any NFHS lacrosse rule that actually requires the field to be safe.

I also note the Officials Code of Ethics in the rulebook only requires that the official inform the event authority of unreasonable hazards.
