Wow.... Canadians really DO put a pseudo-affectionate "ie" on the end of EVERYTHING! That, or an "ers".... :imparied:

why wouldnt you use adams liners in box?

because you can really mess up your shoulders playing without shoulder caps, id like to be able to keep playing when im in my 40's

go for the maverik dynasty speed, stx shogun liner, or the brine lopro liner
Warrior 187
01-23-2008, 04:15 PM
i like the maverik ones, dont really like the shoguns, havnt seen the lopro. and laxcanada... i dont know about you, but usually when im playing box if i get hit its more along the arms and not as much in the shoulders, considering thats almost high sticking.

well if you dont body check alot then you dont need them i suppose, we body check alot here
Warrior 187
01-23-2008, 04:40 PM
where are you from?
theres not that much body checking. when would you need to body check? use your feet and have good position and use your stick. the only reason i would prefer to have shouldies is for running up or playing the occasional offensive shift.

NB, body checking is a good skill to have and use in box, it lays people out much better than a cross check

ahah that gongshow lacrosse. Give me a situation when you would want to body check someone.
but does anyone know where you could pick up adams liners in Ontario?

haha, totaly agree with Warrior 187 here, you dont really see that many top level players going for body checks, its all stick on stick, and stick on arm, and the occasional, or not so occasional stick in face. but ya sorry, dont have anything to add to the actual thread here...just puttin my 2 cents in :S

If the man wants to beat you wide, I'm not gonna risk missing a xcheck, I'm gonna lay the shoulder into him.
Seriously though, you should have caps. A ball could hit your shoulder and without caps shatter it. You never know, you could be Mr.ToughGuy, and end up not playing because of it. So what if you get a little flak, make up for it by dominating the floor.

rbk's shouldies last year would be great for you man.. the shoulder caps arent coming off the colar bone theyre attached to the shoulder pad by velcro straps that you can remove and there is a pad in the middle you can cut off to reduce the bulk.

Dont be a dumbie, dont wear a liner for box. YOU WILL DIE. Field yes, box no. The guys i play with( and i know we are not the only team that does this) look for the weakness's in your pads, if there is a gap we will find it and punish you and finding out if you are wearing a liner instead of actuall shoulder pads with caps wont take long at all, if you play with the guys that i play with/ against you will not last the ame with only a liner.

Alrighty, all this Maverick and Stx crap won't hold up in a box game. What you need is a pair of "low profile" hockey shoulder pads. I have a pair of old Sherwood ones which are very minimalist but still offer protection. I highly suggest you get these or something like them, since you will save alot of time and money getting them (I got mine BN from Play It Again Sports for like $30).
Edit: Now that I look up the model of the shouldies, they're actually the 5030's. I would 100% recommend them to you.

Wow. Have you ever played box?
The reason that you dont see too many top players throwing body checks is.... you don't see too many top players... I guess. Add to that the fact that the NLL has watered down the rules to allow field players the opportunity to survive.
Nothing brought this home more than watching Casey Powell cower in the crease lanes when the Titans played Toronto. Now, there is a quick stick and there is a person afraid to run the gauntlet. Casey isn't a quick stick, he's afraid. Great outside shooter when no one is messing with him, a freaking panty waist when someone is on him. Titans were up in the first half, Toronto started hitting in the second and rolled them.
Using your body is more important than swinging your stick.

i dont know... i've never really seen "big body checks" in box yes there is the occasional one . Yes there is body contact. but nothing like hockey where you drop teh shoulder into someone. And yeah i have played with many top players.

Truth.
When you're 30 you won't want surgery cause you wanted to be cool in lacrosse. I'd wear goalie pads if it meant I could win games for my team.

I'm 38.
I wear pads.
If I played goal, I'd definately wear everything possible.
My point was, in real box lacrosse there is alot of body thrown.
It might be behind a stick for the most part.
But box lacrosse is alot more than slashing and crosschecks.

You need some hard plastic is the bottom line.
If you take a slash behind the play it could injure you, where if you had something proper on you'd be fine.

the player who takes the most abuse in the nll, mll, and sr ball wears just a liner.. the same liner for a lot of years now.. and hes gotten a couple rings awards and records with 'just a liner'.. shoulder caps arent a necessity.. you have fibers on your biceps that go from the top of your elbows to your shoulder and arm guards that go from a few inches above your wrist to your bicep fiber.. A LINER WILL DO THE JOB PERFECTLY.. you cant die from a shoulder injury

Like all other protective equipment - you don't need it, but it's a good idea. Colin Doyle gets beaten on harder than damn near any other pro player and he doesn't wear 'em.....
My opinion - wear 'em. Better to take the hits off the pads and keep playing. Most of the guys I've seen who are "tough" enough to play without pads spend a whole lot of time whining about the pain when they do get hit.
Now, if you wear them, you don't really need the shoulder caps, or the useless soft bicep pads that come with a set of shoulder pads, but the vest is a nice bit of protection at times. Little something for the higher crosschecks, or if you block a shot.

If you already have you're mind made up, then why bother keeping this thread alive?
After everything is said and done, it's still your decision and it seems you've made it.
