Starting Hockey

Ok I couldn't find anything specifically on this topic so here it goes. I'm a freshman in highschool, 15, and I'm interested in hockey. I've never even been ice skating before and I feel like I would be way behind everyone else that plays. I live in Virginia and hockey definetly isn't a huge sport around here so there is not like a ton of hockey prodigies or anything. I was just wondering if any of you think I would have any chance of doing well starting so late.

ahh just pick it up for fun man , its fun just practice everyday, u dont have to be a pro at it just have some fun and get excerise.

I agree with Brad51992. Just play for fun. I suggest you practice getting as good as you can at skating before you start playing because even though hockey is amazing, its wouldn't seem like alot of fun if your not in the play cause you can't skate

i used to play hockey and its kind of a sport that you have to have been playing since kindergarten. if you miss even a few years of instruction and practice it is hard to catch up. i dont wanna discourage you from playing hockey, just start out playing pick-up for fun and see where that takes you. in your position right now it is not possible for you to play competatively on the high school level.

it wouldn't be competitively, just rec. hockey isn't big enough in virginia to have highschool teams. in fact my highschool is the only public school in the county with a lacrosse team.

just try to go skating first until you start getting the hang of it. then throw on the pads and get a decent stick in your hands.

I assume you're in southern va or central...northern va doesn't have varsity ice hockey, but we have a fairly competitive club league.
