The Rams will have a new coach this season, after Coach Benedict began the NCHS boys' lacrosse program in 1973 and has coached the Rams for 34 years.

Word on the street is that Alex Whitten is in line for the job. Tough call -- can you leave a successful program and jump to another with so little time before the season? Would the negative press associated with such a jump be insurmountable? Can anyone survive the first year at NC under the present circumstances? To add to the insanity, HB is reportedly going to fight for a job which he, and he alone resigned from. A lot of negative karma on this one. Remember, HB still teaches at NC and will see his former players every day. Stay tuned..... I wish them the best, NC is always fun to watch and highly competetive.

Coach Benedict knows all of our skills and what we are capable of because he started coaching all of us when we were in elementary and middle school through the summer camps and the new canaan lacrosse association, which he founded for the youth lax players. With Benedict, we have the best chance of going to States and FCIACs. I mean it sucks that the one guy that founded the lax program at NCHS and coached there for 34 years isn't coaching anymore, I looked forward to having him as a coach for my Junior and Senior years. New Canaan lacrosse just isn't the same without him

Truly a shame...NC lax is now a rudderless ship headed for Niagra Falls. NC will be 7-7 from what I see from their schedule and looking at their loss of 14 from the starting rotation last year. Without solid coaching, I can easily see them slipping to 5-9. That would be a shame. If you are a current player, I would suggest you believe in yourselves and hope the captains step up and lead.No chance against the Blue Wave this year... FCIACS and States are out of the question this year unless strong leadership is brought in mid-week this coming week. Best of luck....the leaders of this team must lead for this season to make it to .500 lax. CT is rooting for you.

How could you be rooting us us when you call for a 5 - 9 season? Our program survives, we make the states, beat the Bluewave again in the Fciac's. Far from a rudderless ship the Red/Black not only survive but thrive.
Do you really wish us the best ? Talk is cheap.

Now,Now Longstick, let's not quibble... my wishes are for the program as a whole and for the kids. The goal is the betterment of lax in CT. The parents, and administrators have messed it up. IT'S A GAME... No "master of the universe" from Wall ST., is going to save this program ... they are the ones who messed it up. It will take time to find the right replacement. Till then NC lax WILL suffer. Who will be the replacement? and when will they announce????

U R right, lets now quibble. I just want to see the program continue its successful run. When we look south across the parkway and see the blue waves we just want to beat them so much. I hear they are loaded again. Who are the top 5 or 6 players to contend with this year. I hear they are young but experienced. Their coachs are by far the best in CT. maybe New England. R U a parent or player or a fan?

Longstick, you should be watching the superbowl, not posting! I am just a student of the game and a proponent of CT lax. I think you are correct and you will have your hands full with the blue wave. I had heard they were young but deep. A little recon has turned up some names to watch for: Delaney, Ryan, Dysenchuck, Folley on offense. Defense : Clinton and Caputo. Good luck to you guys.....Are you a player?

We have great leadership in our captains this year, Teddy Citrin, Paul Dubas, Chip Murray, and Fergus Campbell.

This will be a true test of their leadership abilities. If they are able to unify the team and rally around whoever replaces HB and believe in the power of the team... you may have a decent season. By that I mean you may break .500. Remember, a college coach want's to see how the individuals handle adversity as well as success. Pull together and rally the team to be a TEAM. You are playing for each other, not the AD or the parents. Good luck!

i'd be disappointed if they were not able to make it to .500. It's up to the players now... does HB support whitten or trash him.... how will the TWO egos survive? Is NC big enough for both? How will the parents treat this? Will they be comfortable that whitten won't leave them 6 weeks before a season as well ... it's all about character now.
