Which Slap Check?

How are you supposed to slap check? Horizontal, vertical, or diagonal?

not vertical. you can get called for a slash. diagonal or horizontal. i do it horizontally so i can slap and bring the stick back to a good position in front of my body. if you do it diagonally you might lunge and loose your footwork. i only diagonally slap check to set up a takeaway check. i slap and hold my stick on their bottom and try to force them to move their stick... but thats different, just do it horizontally.

vertically is known as a chop check whether it be overhand or underhand. As the mercenary said watch out for the slash and getting out of position.

also know the difference between a slap check and just swinging the stick at your player.

Depends on positioning and their protection of their stick...
personally I like to come down at a diagonal immediately followed by a lift
