Any tips or pointers on where to place hands, how far apart, how to, etc with a long pole? Last season I had like 4 shots on goal from playing defense and bringing it up. (as well as a few assists) and I just want to try and improve my abilities to score, because nothing is sicker than a Pole scoring :P

you are right, nothing is sicker than a pole scoring, i.e. O'Hara, Merrill, Panarelli, Jake Deane, Ric Beardsley. I have seen a couple poles shoot, and shoot well. They way I think of it, cradle right off ear and shoulder and have very hard push pull motion along with as much core strength as you pull into it, and have all your momentum moving forward through your shoulders. then finish with the scoop of your stick pointing at the exact place you want to shoot for.

When I choke up, I always end up bruising my ribs.

You must be shooting really, really, really, hard.
I shoot it like I would with a short stick but with more of a sidearm motion/wind up. And I do choke-up.

Depends, when Im one on one, I choke up so my top hand is about 1.5' away from the head, but if Im all out cranking it, my bottom hand is about 6'' from the bottom.

Alright, and what do you guys think are the most effective dodges with long stick? Bull dodge/spin/semi-face dodge seem to work the best for me.

people tend to overcommit against a long pole so I find the roll dodge to be effective.

yeah thats what I pull on most midis, its rather funny because i'll pull the same dodge 2 times in a row against people and it still works back to back to back lol.

Does anyone know how to do the split dodge with a long pole?
and when are the best times to shoot with the long pole...
Also I heard its harder for the goallie to save the goal if you shoot over the shoulder vs. shooting side arm with a long pole, is this true?

Shooting sidearm with a long pole is going to be harder than shooting overhand, so your shot will be faster overhand. Also, if your hands are extended up like they should be, the shot will be at a relatively high angle, something the goalie isn't very used to, so it may be a little harder to stop.

True. It has to do with the release point. Hard to tell on overhand shots with a pole. I have rarely if ever seen a sidearm shot successful with a pole.

i play goalie and its really hard to save long pole shots because its very hard to see where its going to go.

Ok I tried shooting a bit when i was messing around with some friends. Should I mainly stick to bounce shots with the long pole, or should i try to really rip it in a corner?

Our coach told us to shoot lower corners when we're shooting with our poles, that way if you miss an attackman can go and back up that shot so your long run down the field wont be wasted.

i used to run upfield choked up and shoot choked up. if i have to i will, but if i can make space, i will choke down so my bottom hand is on the butt end, and my other hand is on the stick so that my arms are shoulder width apart. i crank it overhand, and whereever it goes, it goes. i could snipe top left tho if i tried hard enough

I think you have to choke up to avoid getting checked.

I choke way down-hand on the butt. It's easier to protect the stick, you get a bit more speed and you create that odd set of angles that make stopping a pole shot a bit harder for a goalie than the usual short stick shots.

thats debatable cause i have a wicked underhand/sidearm shot with my pole and helix. idk what u really call it cause its like shooting underhand but its way more sidearm than with shorty's.
Any dodge that u bait ur stick works very good cause people do overcomit to the stick against poles, i know i've caught myself doing it in indoor when i play shorty.

A helix? On a pole?
What's wrong with that? I have a Clutch and E3 for mine.

the most important part think is using the whole pol, keep your hnds down low because part of the thing that makes it easier for poles to score sometimes is because the goalie has trouble with the angle its released at, since its coming from double the height of a shorty, meaning its dropping faster
