I've always been pretty interested in fighter planes and stuff like that. When i get out of bootcamp im going to school for Aviation Ordinance, so im pretty excited. Ill get to work on every aircraft the Marines use, so i doubt its going to be a boring job.

Yeah I've always been pretty interested in aviation. I'm in Air Force JROTC right now, but after high school i'll probably join the army, and then go into law enforcement.

why would you join the army after you were in the JROTC for AF? You'd go into the AF ranked higher than if you just enlisted in the Army.

no your thinking of ROTC, the JROTC is something you do in h.s....im in an Army JROTC program at my school and if i joined the army i would have the same rank as anyone else

One of my friends is real big in to Civil Air Patrol. I think he is like the 8th ranked kid in NJ. He goes all over the place for that stuff.

yeah Id take them, I think you need 120 hours to get your license so you'll have someone up there with you the entire who can take over the controls at any time. I mean how many kids do you know that can fly a plane?, it'd be a sweet experience.

Not to sound harsh or anything, but embry riddle isnt that presigious a school. Its only true attribute is its aero engineering program, which if that's what your friend is doing then thats a good move. University of North Dakota is an all round more respected school with a strong aviation program to boot. Its aero engineering isnt as good as embry riddle, but everything else about it will blow ER away. Except the location, daytona beach is pretty good.
Edit:
As for my own aviation interests, Ive got it in my blood so to speak. my dad was a cobra pilot in the USMC. My mom soloed a plane her 16th birthday, the youngest day she could legally. My grandparents ran an aviation business out of kenosha, wisconsin, delivering cargo and small passenger loads, as well as running a service bay and some charter fleets.
I myself may end up going into to Marines as well, though I cant be sure right now. Either way, I plan on flyin as soon as financially feasable. At current, you need 50 hours flight time for your certificate, and to get to that point you need hundreds of hours ground training. With the cost of aircraft, fuel, and insurance so high these years the cost for most people to attain their private pilots certificate is around $4-6k. Of course, the sport pilot license program makes this much much easier, but for my desires the sport pilot system doesnt quite cut it. For most people though, its a great program. The EAA has done a lot pushing the system through in the last few years, so ill give them a free plug here:

I go to Riddle and Daytona isn't spring break every day anymore. Theres nothing to do here. Trust me the beach and the track loses its nostalgia very fast.
Maybe if he is a pilot or business major he might have some more free time and head out to Orlando every once and a while. But theme parks tend to be expensive.

- Riddle is the largest Air Force ROTC program in the nation
- 25% of all Airline Pilots are Riddle graduates
- 96% hire after graduation rate
- highest hire rate among airlines than any other university
- countless club and organization awards
- precision flight teams consistently rank among the top in the nation
Mind you I'm a bit biased but what does UND have on Riddle?
