Varsity Letterjackets

So, this might just be me, but isn't $250-$275 kind of expensive for a letterjacket?

I'm not sure how much they are in other schools, you might be able to input on it, but, wow, it hurts to pay that for a jacket. This is the price in Texas, where you can use it for like a month out of the entire year.

That is--I only lettered in lacrosse, obviously, other sports add patches, and patches cost more.

I lettered in xc and got one. Mine costs about the same as yours but i think its worth the hit

ever see those old movies about football players and see them wearing those jackets? thos are lettjackets right? im pretty sure that what they are. We just get a cheaper version of of a letter jacket for 100 bucks but they are actually still very nice.

we dont get letter jackets cause they are lame and once you are out of high school, youre not going to want it

Haha, funny. I'm not sure how much they're used elsewhere, but EVERYONE who plays a sport here in Tx gets one. Call it status, or whatever you like.

But, yes, they were traditionally used in the '50's. :chuckle:

i live in minnesota so we can wear them for about 5 months here. well worth it, a lot of people have them cause of the weather. ours are about 175 without patches

yeahh. In SoCal, its about that price with patches and things they can add up to be pretty a lot of money. Personally, I think that they are rather ugly (:P!) and consider not getting it but its like that status and memory things for later y'know? It's like yeahhh, I lettered in a sport. Go me, Yay. Here, I can only wear that for like football games during latter season- like a month.

The nostalgia of a lettermen's jacket to me is gone. At my school at least, the key club (community service club) can letter. In addition choir, band, chess, and robotics all award letters. I think there is little to no meaning behing the jacket now, at least not enough to dish out the 300 or so it will cost me to get all my doo-dads put on.

Boathouse is the way to go in my opinion. Looks better, cheaper, more comfy.

about 125 without the stuff, but i think (im not sure) that the patches are given to the people who get them. they dont have to buy them. the boathouses have to have a large order right? my school dosn't get boathouses, but everyone at my school has a letterman jacket.

at my school theyre like 230-250 which is insane. i want to get a letter jacket, maybe ill save for one my senior year because i just bought my teams new warrior jackets and other gear and my custom cleats and i definetely dont have money leftover for the letter jacket.

definetly would never get one. I think they are pointless and once you get out of high school its not going to mean anything. and if you wear it out of high school you are going to probably look like an idiot trying to re-live your high school days or something. But thats just my opinion

At my school they are somewhere between 100-200$ i think. we call them varsity jackets though and its not something that a boathouse jacket would replace. these are kinda like class rings, it resembles all that you did and stuff, and it seems like quite a bit of people do where them. im not sure if im gonna get one though, but if i did, i would definately get to wear it a lot because of how cold it is around here.

we call ours varsity jackets. they are like 300. but up here on the north east we get to wear them for a big portion of the year

Yeah, in my area its called a varsity jacket too. I'm going to get one since I lettered in at least ice hockey (lacrosse hasn't started) and I'm a freshman so I'll get at least three years out of a good jacket.

Yea it all depends where you live and what year you get it. Obviously if you live in Texas you won't get much use out of it. But up here in NJ I use mine for a nice portion of the year.

Also, if you letter your freshman or sophomore year I think it's worth it. I personally wouldn't get one any later than that because you won't be wearing it once you graduate.

I lettered 6 times in high school, never once bought a jacket. They are ugly and you'll never wear it again. If you do wear it at college or in public after you are out of high school you should be pushed down the stairs.

I would never get one, our lacrosse team is cool by all having Boathouse jackets, cheaper and in my opinion nicer looking.

boathouse jackets are definitely better. not to mention, as everything they make is completly customizable/made to order, design it to have a letter on the front. like albany said, it is less expensive but niver.

At my school they got around 350, it was well worth it. Since i lettered in lacrosse 4 years Swim and Dive 4 years, and foot ball for 3 my letter was pretty full. As to a post above i think doing band chior or orchestra is worth a letter its not easy to sing well or play an instrument. As for Key Club its hard to letter in key club at my school, they have to do over 50 hours a quarter for then entire year. That deseves a letter in my opinion.

I never bought one in HS, too much money (at the time $200 I think) and since I didn't letter in anything until my Junior year for wrestling (you needed a certain amount of wins or varsity roster appearances to earn it) it was pointless. When I did letter, they gave me the patch & letter itself for free, earning my lax one when we finally got the team my senior year (everyone lettered).

In college though I was given the letter jacket for free, earned for 2 years on varsity (though I didn't pick it up until my Junior year started and almost forgot at that). But that one meant more to own and wear since it was something you earned, not something that could be bought optionally, and considering the bad rep a lot of sports got at my school, especially my freshman year it was a badge of honor to wear it.

school gave them to the teams that won conference championships. you could buy one in the school store for a bunch of money but the ones in the store were a different color than the ones that you got for winning a championship.
