serously man, just stop eating candy, I mean a snickers bar everyonce in a while isnt bad, I do it every now and then. Stop eating potato chips, sodas. Fast food. start playing basket ball or lacrosse daily both are excellent cardio. Basket ball also helps with lacrosse a lot more than people think.Just be active, I don't think getting into weights at 12 is a good idea, but I also don't know any specifics if it is good or isn't.

LiquidMercury will probably come in here and set things straight. The bottom line is you are real young, and you are still growing, just be active and stay away from health hazards like potato chips, candy, soda, and fastfood. You don't have to extreme diet or anything, just go outside more.

yea stay away from weights. you are too young to be messing with those. it could stunt your growth and you dont want that. like said stay active. your only 12 so if you change your ways now, you will be ok by the time it really counts.

First of all do you ahve any siblings? How tall are your parents/siblings? Are they 'bigger' or have they been at any time in their lives?

If you have taller, slender siblings and parents I will promise you that you will grow out of the body you have now.

Besides that, 12 years old is really an awkward age anyways, I mean, when I was 12 I was probably around your height, weight, and I always felt awkward around people, especially in school. I didn't have much friends, but then again everyone has an awkward period like that, and this must be yours.
Now I am 6'3" and 205 lbs, and have been going to the gym for like a year. Just wait until you are atleast a sophomore in high school.

Just start eating a bit healthier, like instead of drinking Powerade or Gatorade drink some water or Diet Coke or something. Try to narrow down fast food to like once a month. What I'm trying to say is that you don't have to starve yourself, but rather just limit yourself sometimes in certain situations.

Don't lift weights. There are numerous wrestlers that have stunted their growth now and its ridiculous how tiny they are. Just be more active. Stay after school to play pick up basketball or something, or maybe start a frisbee game outside on a nice day. You just need to find a way to get out of your house and with other people. This will make you more active and more comfortable around other people.

Rule of thumb: If you don't shave, you don't go to the gym.

If you are shaving when you are 12 years old you are just a man child lol. But like everyone else said, start eating right, stay away from weights and just stick with cardio. A kid your size will do pretty well for himself competition wise at your age so just get faster and gain more endurance.

If you cant run for a very long time start out by going on extended walks everyday, and once you can walk like 4-5 miles without being tired (this will take a while) then start running like a mile or 2 a day, at a slow pace, and just keep that up almost everyday. If your dedicated to it the pounds should start shedding off. (if you have a treadmill this will make life much easier for you)

Seriously, you're only 12 years old. Don't worry about it. You're going to grow fast soon, and will probably end up skinny.

For now just eat healthy and play lots of sports. Don't even worry about running, it's not fun. Stop drinking pop or juice. Eat less candy/chocolate/chips. Eat more vegetables and meat.

Stuff(activities) you can do:
- wrestle with friends
- tag
- lacrosse
- hockey
- soccer
- basketball
- football
- swim
- tennis

Pretty much anything where you are moving. If you're alone you can't do a few of those, but I'm sure you can still find something to do more fun than jog.

Weight training doesn't stunt growth. If he has hit puberty then he can start lifting.

he's 5 feet tall. He has no need to start weight training anyways.

He could start lifting. I'd have no problem with it, but I wouldn't trust most people to teach him how or what type of routine to put him on. The main thing for the OP is to stop eating junk. 3 rules for you:

1. Nothing but water (no gatorade, soda, juice, tea, anything like that, just water)
2. No candy or ice cream
3. No fast food

Stick to those three rules and you'll start seein a lot of differences. Also just get out and run around. Play lax more, be outside, stop being a bum and playing video games inside and just be more active.

couldnt he do sit-ups, push-ups, chin-ups? (In addition to what is being said above that is) And core workouts without weights and prones/bridges.

yes, BW exercises would be a good idea.

That would be fine. If he is truly planning on lifting he needs to be taught proper form by someone who is knowledgeable as younger people are much more prone to injury. BW exercises are okay by me even though I personally don't care much for them.

Both of these are retarded comments. Wrestlers are smaller because they choose to be most likely. A lot of them have to make certain weight classes and cut weight. Anyone can lift, doesn't matter your age. Shaving is irrelevant to lifting. Even at 22 I only have to shave maybe every other day. My family genetics just have it so I don't have to shave often. Works by me.

Sorry,

The internet and this forum are the wrong place to look for and give diet information to 12 year old.
