Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone knew where post-collegiate men's field lacrosse is played in Canada?

Basically I'm 24 (out of college for a couple of years now), from New Zealand and have been playing lacrosse for only 1 season. I'm going to be looking to travel overseas sometime in 2009 and I would like to go somewhere to play a lacrosse season. I was thinking Canada or the U.S., and Canada is much easier to get a VISA for.

I've been trying to look online for post-collegiate men's field lacrosse in Canada but I haven't had a whole lot of luck for getting a "feel" for it. Does anyone know anywhere in Canada where post-collegiate men's field lacrosse is thriving? Especially if the entry skill-level is relatively low (given I don't have a whole lot of experience).

I know Box is pretty big in Canada, but it seems so different than field lacrosse, so I'm a bit wary of giving it a go. I think I'd prefer field...

Any thoughts/advice would be greatly appreciated!

Have a look at www dot bclacrosse dot CA. If you do end up in BC, give Sr. C lacrosse a go. Sure it's box lacrosse, but if you can play box lacrosse, you can play any lacrosse.

most clubs here have teams in a number of grades so you will be able to play at whatever level you can

Cheers for the advice guys. I guess I could give box lacrosse a go if I make it to Canada. Worth a shot I guess.

Australia has always been tempting for an easy trip across the ditch, but I think at the moment I need to get out in the world a bit more and give a few more countries a go.

If anyone else has any suggestions or knows of any good countries for men's field lacrosse then please hit me up. I think my initial plan it to make my way over to the U.K. with a few stops in between, so if I can find some countries to play lacrosse in then that'd be awesome.

There's an 8-team league in the Vancouver area. The overall skill level is pretty good, but players range from very good to not that good. Go to bclacrosse.com and check up top for links to the men's field league. There's also a forum on there where you can post an inquiry. I'm sure most teams would be more than happy to have a Kiwi on the team for a year. The field season runs from September until April, with a break over christmas.

Hey thanks TW77, great advice/info. It looks like Vancouver is the place I want to go. Now... time to go figure out how to get a work permit.

Thanks again ;-)

Now... time to go figure out how to get a work permit.

Check here on how to get a 12 month visa.

Vancouver is a great place. I was there for 6 months in 2006, just playing lacrosse and having a great time.
