Watch a video of Matt Danowskie riding someone...then you'll know how to do it, and do it well.
EDIT: this is not meant to be dirty, this statement is in all seriousness.

Stay infront of them and try and force them down the sidelines and out of bounds. Keep your body positioning and don't go for a big wrap check
Also if the scouting report mentions what type of clearing pattern they use you can anticipate where the next pass will be and try to read the eyes of the clearer

Yah I know not too unleess they are these real big slow kids. I usually take my stick and but it into their kidneys and cross check them but I keep getting called for being too rough. I'm trying to work on lifts though.

Be tenacious. That is YOUR ball they are carrying down the field. If you want it back go get it.Try to just get body position and force them out of bounds. If they are able to get to the middle of the field, start with the takeaway checks.

I like to hold my stick out in front of me with my hands in shooting positions on my stick and put it infront of him, basically like I am holding him without drawing a holding penalty. Then I push my defense men towards the sideline while annoying the living daylights out of him. I use the top of my stick and harass his hands/pry his stick from his hands while he is cradling upfield and at the same time use my forearms to push his hips to throw him off. The most important thing for any ride is to annoy your defender and make him throw a bad pass to an open spot or a covered teammate. Don't go for the 1 time check like over the head moves until he is at midfield even then it should only be a last resort if you can't go through the mid-field line.

lock him off and dont even make him an option for an outlet pass.
what we do on clears, is lock EVERYONE off, excluding the goalie.
this forces the goalie to walk it up himself and force a pass before a violation is called on him, which ultimately causes either a turnover, or a terrible clearing pass on his part.
tell all of your players that on a ride, lock everyone off, and match feet. if a player goes over the line, go with him, because chances are, if an attackman crosses over, a middie ran back to take the attackman's postion so that they are not considered offsides.
