Good thing he's ok. It's pretty scary when stuff like that happens and you're in the building (I wasn't, just saying from experience) and don't know if the player will be ok or not, they announced he was fine later though.

That has to be scary. Good thing he didnt just lay on the ice and wait for trainers he skated to the bench and went straight to the back. If he didnt do that it might of cost him his life, since he was loosing blood so quickly.

I saw this on SportsCenter. Showing it in slow-motion made it look more gruesome than it probably was. The pictures of the trail of blood to the bench really showed just how serious it was. Glad to hear he's in stable condition

it is a crazy freak accident and i am glad that he is pulling through. a similar thing happened to a goalie a while ago. he was on the ground and the trainer had to run out to him. he survived but it was terrible also. i saw it on youtube but i forget what it was called

there was a sabres goalie in 1989 that got his throat slit real bad. there is a video on youtube, but caution, its not for the light hearted. blood ensues.

I don't know if you guys saw the Flyer's game (http://www.onfrozenblog.com/2008/02/09/profile-in-linesman-courage/) versus the Rangers on Saturday, but in the game, a Flyer got upended and his skate hit a ref square in the face. Right as that happened, 3 fights broke out on the ice, and there weren't enough ref's to break it up, one was trying to help the bleeding ref for a second. Pretty crazy, the ref tried to stand up and help break up a fight, but was real wobbly and dripping blood.

The exact same thing (player fell, leg came up) happened to my buddy just a couple weeks ago. Luckly it just skimmed the side of his neck and he just got stitches, but damn, he was only inches from a life threatening injury.

Hope all you boys where neckguards, my buddy wasn't wearing one.

I went to YouTube earlier today cause I saw this on Yahoo, but found this obviously isn't the first time this has happened before. The first one I found had a goaltender being run into, and somewhere in the tumble he got sliced across the front of his neck and you could see him on his knees with the blood spraying across the ice in front of him......man that has to be scary for a hockey player.

kind of reminds me of that one CSI episode where a teammate sharpens his blades and "accidentally" cuts his teammate on accident to kill him. Those things are sharp!

i heard about that, but i never saw what happened until now. that really sux for the ref, he got really lucky that it wasnt worse. but the fights were awesome lol.

Umm, yeah, your Carotid artery is basically what keeps blood going to your brain, not to mention, severe loss of blood from it for a couple of minutes could kill you. You lose liters and liters if some decent pressure is placed on it.

Just like sean taylor, he was hit in a major artery. What sucks is that taylor died.

Zednik seems like he's gonna pull through though.
