Hey I'm being recruited to play at Presbyterian College who has there first D-1 schedule this year with Duke, Denver, Hobart and other teams. They are a solid academic school and is located in a small town in South Carolina. I'm new to lacrosse but I am an athlete and have come to love the sport. Its an expensive school and I was wondering if there was anyway or any help I could get like athletic scholarship wise. Also how goes the process of a school turning D-I?

If your new to lacrosse and not very amazing, the chance of a scholarship are slim. D-1 and D-2 colleges are only allowed to give 12.5 or 12.6 total scholarships. If your grades are good, they will give you an academic scholarship most likely. It all depends.

I've been talking with PC as well for a while now, but probably will end up not going there. As you said, it's pretty expensive, and since they are new to Division 1 and lacrosse, they are not fully funded and don't have a ton of scholarship money to give. I got in contact with them late, and by that time they had no athletic scholarship money left to give. If you're a senior right now, then you won't be getting any money for athletics. But if you're a junior and you have been talking to the coach, just ask him if he can offer you any money.

actually i'm at the university of maryland playing club as a freshman and i'm probably going to transfer there. I like the size of the school and that its academics are good, I just want to know if there might be a better school to maybe look at for lacrosse that isn't so expensive.

I almost went to Presby, not to play lacrosse, but just for school stuff. I didnt like Clinton, SC too much. Didnt seem like there was a whole lot to do. Its cool that they are now D1, but I dont see how since they werent the best D2 school. Limestone always had their way with Presby. Im sure they give scholarships, are you playing anything else?

I'm gonna be playin in a summer league and I put a thread up about that, I'm thinking hero's lacrosse since they have a over 19 league. But yea about clinton, I come from a small farm town and I don't see myself really the college park or city type. I really like how the school has a 15-1 faculty to student ratio and that its a small southern town. Everything about the school seems nice, I'm just worried about the price. What does your friend like about the school mdlaxman?

thanks tpgoalie, yea i'm probably headed there next semester, I'm not sure if I'm gonna be able to afford all four years of my eligibility, but I'm definitly trying to get some financial help if you have any advice, i hope its not too late. I'm going down to visit presby three weekends from now but even from not seeing it, from the sound of it it sounds like my home town and I'm really diggin that. But yea if you have any advice about the financial stuff TPGoalie let me know. Thanks

I also wanted to say if you had to pick a close to home school and play club or go farther away and play D-I lacrosse, which would you pick? I really want more of a commitment to the sport of lacrosse than a club team but all my friends are at the the school I'm at now. I'm just curious to see what opinions are out there. Club close or D-I farther away?
