Hey guys...

I am a freshman that takes school very seriously and thinks that there is no such thing as planning to early. I have been playing for 7 years and can confidently say that I am realitivley talented. I was just wondering besides the normal powers (Hopkins, UVA, Duke) what are some practical schools that are the best academically in the nation. I have very high grades and so far for the past 3 years I have averaged a 3.7 to 3.8 with honor classes that were not weighted...

I know that I will probally change my mind a bunch but I would want to do something buissness related. U of Pennsylvania has the best buissness school (Wharton) but I would rather go out of state to college. There is something to be said about going away to school. I know Babson is the best Entrapenaur school and is d3... I would rather look at higher level schools in the buissness field but anything is possible. Thanks . I just have had a mental block when thinking of top buissness schools that are d1(not a necessaty) that have practical lax. I appreciate all feedback except "you a freshman so why think about it"...

Oswego State. Has a great Business Program, and a D3 lacrosse team. It's probably where I'm going and what I'm majoring in. And it's not too far from PA, not as far as like Denver at least.

make sure you are looking at the undergrad listings. they vary, and some are grad only (like Tuck at Dartmouth)

Wharton School at Penn is arguably the best in the nation.
you will also find a lot of laxers enrolled there as well.

these are generally accepted as being in the top 15-20 UNDERGRAD bus schools:

(D1)
Pennsylvania (Wharton)
Virginia (McIntire)
Notre Dame (Mendoza)
North Carolina (Kenan-Flagler)
Georgetown (McDonough)

D3: MIT (Sloan)

club:
Michigan (Ross)
NYU (Stern)
Brigham Young (Marriott)
Texas (McCombs)

pennstate and boston college both have extremly good business programs but one is a very competetive D-1 (or becoming very competitive) and the other is a club team. my cousin played for BC and loved it there. (he majored in business)

They are number 34 under smeal university. Replying to boston college being a former D-1 school my cousin said that it was due to the football program growing and that in the athletic department there is interested in reestablishing themselves as a D-1 program which i think is very exciting.

Hofstra. Cant get a better business program or setting, right outside one of the business capitals of the world, New York. Good lacrosse program too.

Check out the website for The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. AACSB is the accrediting agency any biz school worth it's salt will strive for. There are plenty of joe-blow schools out there with basic regional and national accreditation. However, AACSB accredits at the next level with a stringent 5-year application/evaluation process that seperates the best from the rest of the crowd.

From their website:

Its founding members include Columbia University, Dartmouth College, Harvard University, New York University, Northwestern University, The Ohio State University, Tulane University, University of California at Berkeley, University of Chicago, University of Illinois, University of Nebraska, University of Pennsylvania, University of Pittsburgh, The University of Texas, University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Yale University.

Business Week magazine issues one of the most respected ranking systems of undergrad business schools; here are their top 20.

Top 20
1 University of Pennsylvania (Wharton)
2 University of Virginia (McIntire)
3 UC Berkeley (Haas)
4 Emory University (Goizueta)
5 University of Michigan (Ross)
6 Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Sloan)
7 Notre Dame (Mendoza)
8 Brigham Young University (Marriott)
9 New York University (Stern)
10 Cornell University
11 Georgetown University (McDonough)
12 Villanova University
13 University of Texas at Austin (McCombs)
14 Boston College (Carroll)
15 UNC at Chapel Hill (Kenan-Flagler)
16 Washington University (Olin)
17 Wake Forest University (Calloway)
18 Indiana University (Kelley)
19 USC (Marshall)
20 Lehigh University

You can go to http://www.businessweek.com/bschools/rankings/ to see the full list of rankings also broken down by geographical region.

That is great that you've started good habits with your grades right off the bat in your freshman year. Keep building on that (and forget about your GPA from middle school, it doesn't matter anymore) so you will have the opportunity to get accepted at the higher ranked schools. Many of the undergrad business schools don't even accept freshmen (you have to go through another application process usually after sophomore year of college), those that do admit freshmen are usually very selective.
