I recently joined TLF in the beginning of my first season and you all have been a real help. I am progressing through my first season doing well with all of my teammates. Coming up soon is my first game and I am sort of worried. I'm not that big (5'0 105) and I've taken a couple big hits. I play attack and I'm pretty sure that I will start. I was just wondering if my fellow TLF members would give me a few tips and pointers for what to look forward to and how to prepare for my first game.
Thanks in advance.

One of my worst habits and something i spent the entire summer, fall, and winter fixing was not keeping my head up. You may not even relize that you do it but if you really focus on looking around when you run, alot more of the field becomes open to you.(plus you'll see those big hitters coming at you and you can dodge or step out of the way) The best advise though is have fun! although you should always bring intensity to the field just remember your playing a game and if your not enjoying yourself then whats the point playing? Good luck in your first game

dont be scared at in your first game.

One of the things i see a lot in younger players and older players alike is having nervous break downs when someone big comes at them and forgetting how to play. keep your head cool, play hard, and have fun. You said your attack...

My attack squad can work wonders working the ball around, but something we had a problem with when we started out was just not shooting enough! If you see an oppurtinity, even if your 10 or 15 yards out, Take the shot, just rip it at the goalie. The worst that can happen is what? Your x runs and gets the ball and restarts play? Thats not bad.

Dont make foolish moves if a defender comes at you. Just step back, D's dont usually follow attack too far from the goal. Control the ball and wait for an oppurtinuty, If there isnt one, Create one.

The shooting thing, Dont do it if your coach will get mad. I take no responsibility lol. But a good attack squad can score alot more if they just take those shots and really pepper em.

One more thing, dont keep the ball to yourself and wait for an oppening for too long. Pass it around. Just work the all around and something will break in the defense, trust me.

Sorry if im rambling on. LOL

Oh I play left attack and im left handed how about you, Oh and what stick set up do you have?

I am right handed and since its my first year I just picked up a brine rocket for a stick. I like the head but looking to invest in a new shaft.

right if you are scared, you will not do well, i usually play with older kids and when i was younger i would get scared, which causes you just to dump off the ball, thats my two cents

Finally got to our game tonight, got in a whole lot of playing time, but didn't score:(. The beginning of the game we went up 1-3 then by halftime we were tied 4-4 so we both get a goal and by the end of the game we are tied at 5! Overtime here we come. 1 minute left in OT then our X player picks the goalies outlet pass, shoots, and scores!

Doesn't always matter if you score. You don't have to score to have a great game. Congrats on the Win!

if your unselfish and pass the ball a lot, you can be just as good as the guys scoring all the goals.

Yesterday I went into our second game knowing we were gunna get our a$$es handed to us 20-0. We played the no. 1 team and put up a good fight considering that almost all of the players on my team have never played before. In the first half they went up 7-1 and i thought we were hopeless. Our coach screamed at us and got us pumped at the half then we scored 4 making it 7-5, i thought we were gunna win, but then our defense started to slip up then they got 3 in and we lost 10-5. We would have scored a few more goals but we had probably the worst ref in the the freaking world, he called probably 6 or 7 "high" checks when the kids were 2 feet taller than us! Well we lost, nothing i can do but look back on my mistakes and correct them, next game after spring break in my first tourney, any suggestions on double headers?

dont be afraid of big hits. a small guy like you should be able to see a body check coming and easily dodge it. sometimes taking a step in one direction at the last moment will get you open and ready to shoot rather than on your ***. remember to focus on your objectives. recognize if you get around him you may be stuffed in the hole with 2 long poles to destroy you and you may have to pass. and recognize the right time to make a move, and dont be predictable.

Big hits dont matter. If they taunt you or anything remember...you got the win. Dont be disappointed...I didnt score my first game and alot of people dont. Congrats on the win

(p.s. glad the sport is getting new members)

Refs in the South aren't top quality.. You have to work with what you have.

you have to work your way around the ref, if the ref doesn't call something then do that, you have to get used to it, also in your games i figure that it helps when you just tell yourself to wing it and if you screw up, you'll laugh about it, always tell yourself that you're better than the other player even if you aren't you will execute dodges and passes better. this is my opinion and it works for me so you can try it if you want.....
