Carolina @ Denver

Carolina was completely outplayed by Denver. Lucky for them, the officiating crew, number 14 in particular, treated the Heels as the home team, ignoring blatant Carolina infractions while always on the lookout for an excuse to toss a flag against Denver.
-Denver called for delay after 8 seconds out of the box.
-Referees ignoring several loose ball pushes against Carolina players to call a subsequent loose ball hold against a Denver Player.
-Calling a Denver defender for a push w/possesion when a Carolina player turns just before getting hit.

The officials clearly affected the outcome of this game, and should consider donating their measly pay to charity.

no i was there too and completely agree with how horrible the refs were. it was an incredible game though, and denver did seem to outplay carolina IN THE FIRST HALF. after the second half, they seemed to lose their spark, and then in the last 5 minutes they got it back again. especially with :53 left and #44 for denver had a breakaway one-on-one goal with the goalie.

UNC expectations are high, but they are looking like they might disappoint, again. I saw them at the Leukemia Tournament in the Fall and they didn't look good at all. They just don't jell as a team. Too bad, they had a storied past...

UNC's transition game was what hurt them. They were missing 3 of their top middies due to injury though, and I think teams have trouble adjusting to the altitude change up in Denver. I also read that the players didn't get to the hotel until 2a.m. the night before. All of those things probably played into why UNC wasn't on top of their game.

I also hear that Denver's goalie did phenomenal. I was always a fan of Austin Konkel. During his freshman year I saw him play on tv and I've thought he was underrated ever since.


I don't really understand why people would downplay Carolina's win today. Just because we beat Denver by only one point today doesn't mean that Carolina won't do spectacular during the season. I believe Johns Hopkins only beat Hofstra by one and Towson only by two. You wouldn't expect that out of a team that won the national championship that same year would you?

It was pretty hard for Denver not to loose their spark in the 2nd half when their repeatedly playing 2 men down defense (even though they scored once 2 men shorthanded).
I only downplay Carolina's win because it was with the help of the stripes, not their play.

that was one of the best BTB fakes i've ever seen. it took the defense at least 5 seconds to realize he still had the ball. i'm surprised he didnt do anything after the fake. he basically just stood there and waited for the D to figure it out.

Yea im not too shure about the officials in this game. But, I was suprised about the faceoffs. Shane Walterhoefer didn't really dominate at the X and i was kind of disappointed.

Lastly, the short stick middie # 37 Kyle Widerstedt was ridiculous as a short stick D.
