My son is in his second season of lacrosse, and is small for his age. I notice that is stick seams very long and akward. He is short for his age to boot. The league he is in is not competative so I am not worried about him getting called for stick violations. I am looking for guidelines not exact length. Proportionaly what makes sense?
thanks.

depending on your league rules and how old he is, you can always cut down his stick. taking off a couple inches can make a world of different if the stick is to big for him.

as long as he is under age 10 you can cut his stick down to 36 inches measuring from the tip of the scoop to the end of the shaft. once he turns 10 or statrs playing in a 10 year old league the minimum is 40 inches

According to US Lacrosse rules (http://www.uslacrosse.org/the_sport/boys_rules.phtml), he can have a shaft cut down to 37" inches OAL until 8th grade. In High School and older, assuming NFHS rules, it must be 40".

Thank you for all of the advice. I think 36in will still be long but will keep it legal. The league he plays in is an instructional league, so I am not worried about him being penalized. I just want him to be able to handle the stick without it getting in the way. When standing a 40in stick comes to his chin. Unless I hear otherwise I will hack off 4in and be done with it.

35" minimum here on long island. Like others said, check the rules first. If your kid is on the smaller side, probably best to go with the minimum.
