I just strung a custom trad pocket with 2 leathers. well with an x2 its kinda wide so u might want something like a pita or something with a channel in it so the ball doesnt go everywhere. try and look at e-lacrosse.com and see what kind of pocket u want first.

i had a meshX strung into my hype a few weeks ago and i've made some minor modifications to it. The result is a ghetto rock-it pocket. My roomate swears by his Rock-it pocket(has had one for years) but was impressed by the way it has handled. The mods i made are rather simple but have created a very tight channel in which the ball sits in one place at all times(same concept behind the rockit) this thing literally hugs the ball.

hey first off u need pocket nylon not side wall. also go to the topic stick tec 2 and do either the pick pocket :agree or the other mesh one. if it is your first time stringing a trad. then u might not wanna do these. go to e-lacrosse or buy a trad ki and follow the instructions. thats how i leaarned. that and ask to borrow one of ur teammates sticks that has trad and copy it. being able to see and physically hold the stick will make it easier.

I don't think that is goin to work, u might want to start over? but a good way to do the middle is with a pita pocket style. where u have twists goin down the inside. this helps channel the ball in wider sticks. for the leathers, i usually take the leather and go from the outside back in then back out. so u kind of loop it around, not a very good description but still maybe u get the point. u also want ur pocket symetrical(sp?)

CHMiddie

well u have to start over for multiple reasons.

first off get some pocket nylon. the sidewall strings probably not gonna be to good.

second, u need more diamonds. thats not to tuff.

o and to answer ur question u can tie em off however u like.

CHMiddie

just also noticed. make some interlocking sidewalls. then string ur outside from that. and look at ur outside how it zigzags many times. every time it hits the leather the next zigzags over should hit em too. at the top u skip like 2 n then random 1s. if u can see what i mean n look at a trad. pocket ull understand

O DAMN good thing i caught this before u finished n went to throw with it. the leathers are put in wrong. if u pull on em theyre gonna come out.

do u have anyone that can string near u or on ur team?

also for a novice ide highly recommed getting a kit so u can follow the instructions.

It just takes practice, try and find some close ups of other traditional pockets online and try recopying what they have. i would put up some pics showing u how to string it, but my camera is lost somewhere in my room...

Dpolelax
09-25-2003, 03:26 PM
you do have a point. i rarely ever see a long pole with anything other than mesh. maybe when you get into the college games, but for high school i have'nt seen one yet.

lizlax22
09-25-2003, 03:27 PM

Do you have any pocket nylon or just sidewall string?

Alex
09-29-2003, 09:34 PM
I'm no traditional expert, but I think your problem was that you didn't have the leathers tight when you strung it. You want them taped down the the shaft, taut, when you string it and then work the pocket in from there. Another tip, wet the leathers in warm water then stretch them well before starting to string it, it makes a huge difference in making the pocket easier to maintain.

and get nylon and follow thesse dirctions

make sure that where the nylon loops overlap on the leathers are strung the right way. On my first pocket I was like, WTF?! The pics looked perfect of other pockets, but mine were kind of crossing over each other on the face of the leather. You probably wont like working with a lot of string at first, atleast I didn't. But keep with it and it will come out better IMO.

Don't make the diamonds get smaller at the bottom and larger at the top. Try to prevent this as much as possible.

My pockets come out much better if I get a ball and put it in the head with only leathers in it, and get the pocket to the right depth. Also try to keep a ball, or pocket shape as much as possible when stringing. Only do this after the leathers are stretched.

Make sure that the leathers are tied off before you start and are symmetrical in depth. Keep the outside leathers a little tighter than the two middle. This helps create a better channel and hold.

Make sure that the nylons are tight when you string. Nothing upsets me more than when my pocket shifts.

Keep sidewall strings symmetrical, and keep the top of the leathers where you thread it through itself tight.

Thats all for now i guess...
