Lax Players do not want to play in Winter. Players not thrilled to play in empty stadiums. No one likes freezing conditions to practice in. Lax fans do not enjoy freezing their a** off watching games...no fun...kids and co-eds stay home.
(See atrocious attendence figure IE/ 1200 to see Navy vs Cornell....only 1900 to see final 4 match JHU vs. Albany, in Baltimore, no less).
The cold weather has a definite negative effect on the quality of play. ..so why does the NCAA waste great match ups and almost half the season playing in miserable weather at the expense of players and fans?
Some say it revolves around Final 4 Tournament on Memorial Day weekend (Even then weather is often crappy). If this is the case it is extremely short sighted and a disservice to players and fans...and the game itself.
Lax season SHOULD start mid-March (common sense).

*(NCAA College Baseball World Series in Omaha is in mid June - and sells out)

but then the STUDENT-athletes would end up missing more classes because of mid week games.

plus one thing that makes lax players, lax players, is that we're not sissys. when its cold, run harder, hit harder, get heated up. ive played games when it was 35 degrees out and i was sweating. if the fans dont come out, they dont come out. its like that for any sport that is outside and in the cold. if the season didnt start until mid march, then that leaves a month and a half of play for a season before the post season. so yeah, mid week games that no one will go see, and not to mention if the final four was in mid to late june, theyd have to compete with the college baseball world series, and the schools will be out for the summer by then. so not as much student support. also, keep in mind, for a rising sport, 1900 for a game in feb. is not bad at all. outside in the cold. 1900. its going to be cold for the face off classic too im sure, and 13000 tickets sold so far...not bad.

I don't think there has ever been a final four, that I have been at at least, where the weather has been bad or cold. It's usually close to 100 the entire weekend.

I don't think players mind playing in February. They get more games in that way and who wouldn't want to play more often?
