When do division 1 practices start for the season? Ive heard that they start almost as soon as the beginning of the first semester but i thought they were not allowed by the NCAA.
Thank You,
Alec

Like it was said earlier, it depends on their conference. but if your wondering about teams like duke and such, they must start their practices pretty early because matt danowski got injured back in fall at their practices.

im pretty sure most places are not allowed to have practice first semester (i think its an ncaa rule) there might be a couple weeks allowed in there to get ready for fall ball tournaments though.
but the rule is that they can't have "official" practice. so yes teams do practice in the fall(first semester) they just have "captains" practice. where the captains run the practice and the coaches are not allowed. they also do a lot of workouts, lifting, and conditioning.
thats how ive always seen it

All Division One teams can have official practices in the fall, and I'm pretty certain all of them do. Usually Division One practices until October, has a scrimmage, and then is done with official practice until the spring.

They don't have different practice rules than D3. D3 also has Fall ball for 4 weeks. Some teams play a tournament or a scrimmage at the end, some just practice 4 weeks straight then get ready for the spring.

for me as a German: How can you forbit practice?
If 30 boys meet at a spots facility and have there sticks with and play and pass and do what ever, and "by accident" the coach is heaving a walk and sees what they are doing ...
You can not allow official games but you can't tell people not to go out and do some sports.

yeah they have a couple weeks of "official practice" and fall ball tourneys. but the rest of the time in the fall the practices are run by captains not by coaches and its called captains practice.
wolfenburg, that's what a captains practice is. its when the team sets up a practice and the older guys coach the younger guys. the coaches do frequently "go for a walk past the lax field" and see how its going but the coaches aren't allowed to be on the field coaching the practice.
