To restate, I am just starting to play lacrosse. I am transitioning from playing basketball my whole life to lacrosse and I just started in fact about a month ago, so forgive me for my ignorance. I am playing defense and have several questions. To start, I am 6'1 175 lbs (I don't know whether this is relevant or not). I think it was on this site that I read that poke checks and lifts are generally the safest and best checks (correct me if I am wrong). I have been hearing all over the place that there are some checks that "get you out of position," but what do you guys mean? Am I supposed to be in a defensive stance like in basketball and slide my feet to stay with the defender? How much distance should there be between me and my defender? Any suggestions/tips would be much appreciated!
