Following you'll find a break down of the top 100 high school lacrosse programs in the country according to laxpower.com. I know not everyone agrees with their ranking completely, but you have to agree that it works reasonably well at giving one a general idea of where teams fall on a national scale. You also need to concede that the number of top 100 high school programs a state has is a reasonably accurate way of determining the amount of talent it produces.
NY 42
CT 10
MD 9
NJ 6
MA 6
PA 5
VA 5
OH 5
CO 4
CA 3
NH 2
TX 1
FL 1
DC 1
So New York seems to be a pretty clear cut winner in the way of total talent by a large margin. Another interesting number is the concentration of talent. I did this by dividing the population of the top five states by the number of top 100 programs they have.
CT- 1 per 350k residents
NY- 1 per 475k
MD- 1 per 622k
MA- 1 per 1.1m
NJ- 1 per 1.4m
The results seem to support what I’ve always thought to be true, that Connecticut, while not having the best lacrosse in the country, has the highest concentration of good lacrosse.
