ok so today i was shooting around outside. i have a decnt shot i guess but i just wound up and side armed a shot as hard as i could and it went through the net causing a gaping hole much bigger than the ball itself. The net is pretty new so i dont know why it would brake. has this ever happened to you?

This has happened numerous times to me and all of my friends. It is inevitably going to happen unless you have the cash to shell out for those heavy-duty nets.
The way to fix it is to use zip ties and cross-lace. They will become your new best friends when you get more and more holes.

it even happens to the good thick nets once theyve sat outside in the sun for a while. the only way to slow it down is take your goal inside when you arent using it

I have so many holes in my goal it's nuts. Zip-ties just snap off. I may buy a 3 or 4mm net this summer. They make 6mm nets but they are ungodly expensive.

buy a 4mm net and chances are it wont happen again.
I tore a few nets apart before I put the money out for a 4mm

our goals sit outside in the sun all season and we used to go through them like toilet paper. we switched to the super-heavy-duty ones and haven't had any recent problems.

My advice is either to invest in a 6mm net, which is almost impossible to break. Or if you don't want to spend $150 on that, just buy a lot of cheap nets and I guess every time one gets ripped with holes change the net.

Anyone have any links for a site that sells 4-6mm nets for cheap?

you're going to have to spend at least $80 for a 4mm net. I have had mine for a while, it's still in good condition, and it went through a full winter in the snow.

I have about 8 holes in my net that i just got like 2 months ago. I just ordered a 4mm like an hour ago though.

my net (that me and my 3 other friends shoot on) is almost all zipties and crosslace now. we aim for corners and if we hit them, it goes through a hole almost every time.

It happened to my friends net. Use duck tape to patch it up. You can make a double side patch or make strings with the duct tape and replace the netting
