What do you prefer for you shooting string set up. Ive been trying alot of different things lately in my shortstick. I was just wondering what everyone else likes. Right now i am useing a nylon across the top, with one strait shooter and a v in my razer. I usually just go 3 strait shooters, but im trying to see if there is anything better for me. but if not im going back to the triple clasic.

swizzle TI special edition #247...light enough, sturdy, nice shape, indestructable, makes the combo top heavy...
hardmesh/sidewall attached/lowpocket...great hold and consistancy...doesnt mess up in bad weather, and has a a beastly shot...
1 straight nylon and on U shooting string...slightly delayed release but maximum power in shots and passes...
On my game stick it's 1 nylon, 1 straight, 1 u. I put 2 straight and 1 u. It's either that or no nylon on my other sticks.

hey i was just wondering since im new to lacrosse and stick doctoring what is the difference between nylon and hockey lace shooters, differences types of shooteres make( v's or u's) the difference between rolled and weaved and,in your opinion a good setup for a scoring attacker so i need accuracy, shot speed, and quick release.i usually like a medium amount of whip. Thanks alot!!
laxfreakR220
07-25-2006, 07:01 AM
nylons are used in the same context as shooting strings (hockey laces) but are the same as side wall string. tight v's and u's give more whip (throwing down) and loose ones give accuracy. rolled shooters give a smother release than weaved adn if you are looking for whip then go for tight. the best combo is two straight and one u each with one space apart.
vvv i personally don't like this because i like alot of whip but it is best for beginners because of its simplicity and ajustability (sp?)

if your looking for a low whip, accurate pocket with a good amount of control, id suggest a low pocket with 6, 7, or 8 diamond mesh.
im not saying that as a preference either (i have 6d with a ton of whip). id suggest that because the lower meshes grab the ball really well for someone who isnt going to have the deepest pocket or a lot of whip. and a low pocket is good for one handed cradling and will almost never catch on the shooting strings, so itll be consistent and accurate with a quick release. the only thing itll lack in is hold (but to be honest, the only fakes youll ever use can be done with a girls stick, so that doesnt matter that much)

07-25-2006, 10:35 AM
Nylons and hockey laces are used basically the same way. Usually you only put a nylon or two at the top close to the scoop of the head to give a crisper release and get rid of any lip that may be there. V's and U's are used for accuracy and hold. Rolled shooters give a smoother release, but weaved shooters usually work better. I usually only use rolled shooters for nylons or for hockey laces in mesh with large diamonds.
The setup I usually put on sticks which has pretty good hold, accuracy, and some whip is like this: Rolled nylon, weaved straight hockey lace, then two weaved V's.
